"But if we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time"

Come on by on Thursday August 11th at 9am..

networking

Join us at the Greenhouse, the Good Work Institute building at 65 James Street in Kingston. Martha Williams and John Scilipote, co-founders and co-creators of BreakBread World and Mindful Conversation will present some of their work and thinking on the role conversation plays in creating more resilient, sustainable and collaborative communities.
BreakBread brings people and communities together to break bread over deeper, more meaningfully inspired conversation. Mindful Conversation is the practice that emerged from the BreadBread process that helps people show up more fully, listen more deeply and claim more agency in weaving better conversations for themselves and those in their lives.
Other topics to be discussed include the upcoming Library bond issuance, the Common Council's recent Climate Emergency Resolution and the role of Kingston Transition in developing a networking tool for "frameworks of care" in Kingston. The meeting is open to everyone, please come and take part in the conversation. There is no formal agenda, we encourage you to bring your ideas and share them with your neighbors.

HomeShare Woodstock

At last month's meeting Janice La Motta, the Project Director of HomeShare Woodstock, gave us a detailed explanation of this pilot program to match people in need of housing with homeowners. The idea is to bring together people who need housing but cannot afford the high priced apartments in the area, and seniors who wish to remain in their homes but have extra space and often have needs that are difficult to meet - such as work around the house or garden, getting a ride to the doctor, etc. The idea is that each can help the other. The program aims to take the uncertainty out of the process by creating a structure, including a no-obligation trial period and work exchange agreements. If a match is found, there is a 2 week trial before anyone moves in, and a written agreement for a one year commitment. Should there be problems Family of Woodstock will work with the participants to sort them out, and if necessary, terminate the agreement. The program is sponsored by Family of Woodstock and currently financed through a grant from NY Office for the Aging.
This arrangement has a history of working well in other parts of the country, alleviating anxiety, isolation and depression among seniors and helping the housing crisis.
