Spaghetti Sauce Canning Class

Saturday, August 24, 10am-2pm (or until we're done)
LAST CHANCE to sign up on the bulletin board to join us for this tomato extravaganza with Rachel Vignon! She is willing to share her family recipe and teach us all how to make a truly delicious spaghetti sauce. Jars will be provided. There will be a small fee to cover ingredients. (Fee - around $5 or less - to be determined when we have a total count of participants.) The ending time of 2pm is really just a guess. We could be done much faster or a little later...depending on our kitchen skills and number of participants. Rachel's sauce is worth any amount of time...guaranteed!

Fall Harvest & Birthday Celebration

Saturday, October 19
This date marks the 11th "birthday" of our church building! Our first service in this building was on October 19, 2008. So, instead of our annual Fall Fest/Trunk-or-Treat, we are going to celebrate the fall season and have a birthday party for CGCC. More details to come as the event approaches, but save the date on your calendar now!

Summer at GG

This week we say goodbye to our intern, Darius Surgenavic, as he embarks on his next adventure at Trine University in Indiana. We were so lucky to have him be part of our GG family for two years! The university is going to be blessed by having such a hard working, caring young man. We celebrated him on Wednesday with homemade cherry ice cream and homemade cherry soda.

Tuesday's lunchtime feast was lasagna (with Rachel's own spaghetti sauce), homemade bread, and mixed veggies. Tuesday just might be the best day to be at Goodness Grows!

Jam was a major part of the work this week. We have two big shows this weekend and one next weekend, so our folks were jamming like crazy! They also experimented with a special onion jam for our CSA subscribers. If it can be made into a jam, we will try it!

We'll kick off next week by getting back to a normal visiting schedule at Whispering Pines. With mission groups here, we had to take July off from our volunteering. We are looking forward to Monday morning and seeing what we can do to help the staff and residents.

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.

Matthew 25: 35-36, 40

Naturalist Series: Katydids & Crickets
August 10, 7:30-9:30pm
Bird song is the first music we hear each year, and frogs and toads join them throughout spring and into the summer. But late summer and early autumn? Crickets and katydids take the stage for nature’s final performances of the year! We’ve found katydids and crickets right at the MetroParks Farm, so we will likely see them as well as hear them. Dr. Lisa Rainsong of the Cleveland Institute of Music will introduce you to the members of this delightful ensemble and explain how to identify who’s doing all that singing! Registration requested, not required. Call Fellows Riverside Gardens at 330.740.7116. (The Naturalist Series is a collaboration between the OSU Extension – Mahoning County Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist program and Mill Creek MetroParks. The next program will be 9/11 Growing Caterpillars: A Tale of Birds, Plants, and Conservation at Fellows Riverside Gardens.)
