BLT is proud and honoured to be presenting 'An Evening With Sir Derek Jacobi CBE' on Sunday 12 October 2014.

This will be a gala black tie event and Sir Derek will be appearing on stage at BLT to talk about his life and career and afterwards signing copies of his autobiography (which will be on sale in the theatre that evening).

Get your sleeves rolled up for...

The Big BLT Clean-up

Saturday 9th August at 10am

Yes, folks – it’s that time of year when we clean, fix and generally clear out all those troublesome nooks and crannies in our theatre.

BUT… this year, we’re doing things a little differently.

On August the 9th, we're asking volunteers to give up just one day to come down and focus on the revival of one fixed space within the building – but don’t worry as there will be plenty of people to help and give guidance.

If you’re a regular BLT visitor but have never taken part in any of our extracurricular activities, then this is a great opportunity to get to know a little bit more about what we do behind the scenes.

We're very keen to see new faces and you only need to give up one day. Families are welcome en masse too. Remember: many hands make light work!

Plus...there'll be some refreshments during the day and in the evening a special party that only people who have volunteered will be able to gain entry to! This will consist of food, drink and entertainment. If you’re interested, please turn up on the 9th of August at 10am in old clothes and loaded with bags of energy.

Come and get your hands dirty!

My Boy Jack

by David Haig
Directed by Tony Jenner
Fri 12th – Sat 20th Sept at 7.45

Despite his severe myopia, and thanks to his father, Rudyard, pulling strings, John Kipling joins the Irish Guards to fight in the Great War. He soon discovers that life as a soldier is nothing like the romanticised stories of heroism and chivalry told to him as a child. When he is declared missing after only a couple of weeks the news devastates his family back home in Sussex and the search begins to find someone who knows what really happened on the day John led his platoon onto the battlefield.

My Boy Jack by David Haig is being performed to mark the centenary of the start of World War 1 and is a powerful and moving account of the anguish at the heart of a man whose storytelling still delights people all over the world as well as a fitting tribute to those whose sacrifices we remember around this time of year.

Roleplay

by Alan Ayckbourn
Directed by Debbie Griffiths
Fri 10th – Sat 18th Oct at 7.45

Justin and Julie-Ann, both in computers and hopelessly mismatched in love, are about to introduce their respective parents to each other over dinner: Justin’s upper-crust alcoholic mother from Surrey and Julie-Ann’s bigoted Yorkshire father and prim mother. Into this doomed scenario drops, literally, via the balcony upstairs, Paige Petite, a former lap-dancer with suicidal tendencies and her thick, gun-toting minder who is employed by her violent boyfriend. They proceed to wreak havoc on the meticulously planned evening, but the brilliantly orchestrated mayhem is tempered by subtle insights into family relationships and class distinctions.

BLT On Tour:

'Anne Boleyn' bowls 'em over at Hever...

BLT's production of 'Anne Boleyn' has just finished a very successful run at Hever Castle Festival Theatre. Seats were practically sold out every night (all 450 of them!) and there was a standing ovation after each performance. One gentleman was heard to say that he had been going to Hever for eleven years and that was the best thing he had ever seen! Well done to Pauline Armour and her team. Here's to next year!

...and 'Clybourne Park' encores at The Brockley Jack

16th - 27th September

BLT's production of 'Clybourne Park' recently swept the boards at both the Bromley and Kent Theatre awards.

If you missed it now's your chance to catch this marvellous play in the perfect setting of the Brockley Jack Theatre - scene of BLT's recent triumph with 'A Doll's House'. Come and support our fabulous cast as they wow the denizens of Brockley with this modern American tour de force!

Be enlightened...

Would you like to learn how to operate stage lights?

We'll shortly be running a series of evening workshops for people who are interested. These will be hands-on sessions with small groups (max 3 people per session), lasting no more than one and a half hours. If you'd like to get involved please contact Howard Binysh on either 0771 552 7911 or email him HERE to arrange a suitable time.

...about working backstage

BLT already has a great team of dedicated folk working backstage but we do need a bigger pool of people to ensure the smooth running of our productions.

Working on a show is a commitment; (rehearsals usually begin about 6 or 7 weeks before the run) but it's great fun!

If you'd like to find out more about joining the backstage family at BLT, please email Pat Jones HERE. We would love to hear from you!

Be a BLT Reviewer

Ever fancied yourself as the new Kenneth Tynan or Michael Billington? Here’s your chance: we need reviewers to contribute a critique of each of our shows for publication in Spotlights. That’s 11 main house shows and four or five In The Bar productions; that’s about 16 reviews a year – so we need you to get scribing!

To register just click HERE and you'll be redirected to our special Reviewers' Page. Then just type your name next to the listed production you'd like to review and that’s it! The page saves everything automatically – so just close the window when you’re done.

At time of writing we still need reviewers for 'Roleplay' (Oct) and 'Collaborators' (Nov) so don't put it off - sign up now!

Did you know that 'Spotlights' is now also online?

BLT's member's magazine has now gone digital - but don't worry you'll still receive the 'real' copy by post every quarter too! To read the current (and previous) issues click the image.
