2016 Mental Health First Aid Workshops

Hi Member,

We can (& should) all be gatekeepers of each others mental health...

We all know that mental health is a big issue within the veterinary industry and we've probably all worked with someone at one time or another who we knew just wasn't 'themselves'. Did you know what to say to them? Or did you think that you didn't have the knowledge, skills or even the right words to ask them how they were?

Well that's what the 2 day 'Mental Health First Aid' workshops being held around Australia are all about and this week the course instructor Rosie Overfield has written a guest post on why you shouldn't be afraid of mental first aid for your veterinary practice. In fact - you should enroll in the workshop and take along one of your team (that's the brochure above!).

Also this week I've delved into the world of Snapchat - and no it's not just social media for teenagers - it has in fact overtaken Twitter in popularity and perhaps it's time to take a look at whether it could work for your veterinary practice.

I'd also suggest you check out the special offer from the AVBA for their upcoming Veterinary Business Conference - 2 for the price of one! And at a Conference packed full of information you definitely need 2 heads!

We're featuring 4 jobs from Vetme - your online veterinary job search community - 2 of which are in gorgeous NZ - fancy a sea change anyone?

And finally a must read post about Dr Lynn Simpson the veterinarian who has exposed the terrifying and cruel conditions faced by animals on live export ships and paid the price for her whistleblowing.

So much great information.....

Our aim is to help you - save time, connect & discover!

Enjoy your reading :)

Overnight, whistleblower vet Lynn Simpson became a pariah – and then she all but vanished

This post was shared by Sentient, The Veterinary Institute for Animal Ethics and is a must read - this is from their FB Post: "If you read no other posts this week, please read this brilliant article about Dr Lynn Simpson, the veterinarian who has exposed the terrifying and cruel conditions faced by animals on live export ships. Focus on...Social Media? Fuhgeddabouit!

Toxic-Waste

Social Media is The Last Thing your Business Should Do (Veterinary Business Matters)

Yes .... a presence on social media is essential for the success of your veterinary business...except when it's not!
This apparent contradiction is explained well in Dr Mike Pownall's recent blog post: "As I left the hospital I realized I had learned a huge lesson: Social media, or any other type of marketing, is only effective if the business is based upon a solid and strong business foundation."

So what are the 3 essential things you need BEFORE social media can help your business?:

1. Are the staff happy?

2. Are clients treated like they are wanted?

3. Is someone leading the business?
