Does it have a neurological basis? GHF's Corin Goodwin and Sarah Wilson, in collaboration with Sharon Duncan and Joanna Haase, PhD, MFT, of GRO: Gifted Research and Outreach, seek to clarify and make accessible the neuroscience of giftedness in a new article series, Neuroscience of Giftedness: Physiology of the Brain. The first three articles of the series are now available: * Larger regional brain volume * Greater connectivity across brain regions * Increased brain activation With this project, GHF and GRO endeavor to pull together the current research to create a better, accurate understanding of giftedness for health professionals, education professionals, and parents to use when working with and advocating on behalf of the gifted population. We will publish the next articles throughout the summer. Keep checking back for the latest in the Neuroscience of Giftedness. | GHF has partnered with GRO on this project to spread the word about the neuroscience of giftedness to the gifted community, medical and educational professionals, and other service providers. Greater understanding will lead to a better quality of life for our children, their families, and society as a whole. | Former Disney animator and homeschool dad, Chad Stewart offers 12 weekly LIVE online animation and drawing courses for 11- to 18-year-olds. Hour-long classes and personal video reviews! | At the recent SENG conference, Julie Skolnik interviewed Corin Goodwin, GHF's Executive Director, as part of Let's Talk 2e!, the digital media arm of With Understanding Comes Calm, LLC. Julie asked Corin, "What one thing would you change in our education system, whether it's in the classroom, or county-wide, or district-wide, to help 2e kids flourish?" Listen as Corin explains the mindset change that would help educators better understand and work with 2e kids. | GHF exists because most homeschool and alternative education organizations do not address giftedness, and school-based gifted programs, when they exist, often do not serve children whose intense giftedness or twice-exceptionalities require home-based supplementation or truly customized schooling. We view homeschooling broadly and inclusively. Our membership is diverse and far-flung, hailing from across the US and the world. Not all members of the GHF community are currently homeschooling. Many never will. What brings us all together is a common interest in meeting the parenting and educational needs of each student based on their individual development. For as little as $29 per year, you can become part of the GHF Supporting Members community. Gain access to discounts on online classes, including GHF Online, Open Tent Academy, and Online G3. Supporting Members also get discounts on special events and one-time offers from supporters and partners. Your Supporting Membership will quickly pay for itself. But the best part is you will help support GHF's numerous outreach and advocacy efforts. Your support is vital to GHF. | GHF Online Learning Partners GHF Supporting Members receive discounts to the following online learning partners. | Goodbye, Chester On August 2nd, we said goodbye to Chester, the GHF Mascot. He was part of our organization from the very beginning. From sitting on hands while we were trying to type, to helping write Making the Choice and Writing Your Own Script; from pinning us down when we needed to work and sitting on laptops to keep us from working, to supervising our work, he was an integral part of GHF. He personally inspected many of the GHF staff, and helped keep meetings on track by meowing loudly into the phone. During GHF Online classes, he kept watch and often chose to teach himself, getting onto the keyboard and putting his face in front of the camera. We sometimes say that GHF is what keeps us parents sane. Well, Chester was particularly the supervisor of the GHF Executive Director, Corin Goodwin, and he kept Corin sane while she raised her two 2e kids and guided many of her 2e "bonus" kids. He will be sorely missed by us all. | |
