The Dark Pixie Newsletter - May 2017 Edition

News:

We're powering through Mercury retrograde right now, little pixies. We survived Venus retrograde, so we've just gotta keep going. Onward!

May is going to bring two guest articles by astrologer Regina Chousza of Diary of a Psychic Healer! One will be a newsletter article May 1st on weathering astrological storms, and the other will be a blog article on May 31st on using astrology and crystals for healing. Make sure you check them out!

The humongo news for May is I'm going to be launching a course! I didn't want to go too big, so I decided to focus on an intermediate course based on 3 classes from Savant: intermediate astrology, electional astrology, and mundane astrology. The course will be aimed at intermediate and advanced students, it'll be entirely online, and I'll even be involved personally, answering student questions each week at the start. More will be coming on this, so stay tuned!

AND there's going to be a totally free Harness the Moon: 4 Day Challenge where you'll learn about how to use the Moon to tweak your timing regularly. It ties in to the new course and will start mid-May, so if you want to sign up, click HERE.

Also, ICYMI, I will be pulling the Become a Predictive Astrology Savant e-book April 30th so I can focus on the new course, SO if you want to get it, you don't have much longer (P.S. If you want to get the new course, I highly recommend getting Savant, if you haven't already - hint, hint!). Get the e-book HERE.

SO May is going to be a big month in Dark Pixie Land! Well, we'll be out of the Mercury and Venus retrogrades, so we'll all be feeling a lot fresher :) (so fresh, so clean-clean . . . okay, maybe that's super old Outkast but whatevs)

May 2017 General Astrology Outlook

Compared to the last few months, May is a snooze! It does start with Mercury retrograde, but this quickly ends May 2nd, and we're out of the storm May 13th. Mercury exits Aries and goes back into Taurus, where he began the retrograde, May 16th, so we can see some things wrapping up or coming full circle that began around the start of the retrograde in early April. We can also calm down a bit more and try to ground our minds after all of the wonky energy lately. A little break!

A full moon occurs on May 10th in water sign Scorpio, which is usually a pretty serious full moon where we're digging deep and trying to have a better understanding of everything at the core. We don't want superficial, we want depth and passion, and we can get into it with this full moon. It's a bit emotional, but it can be good for a release (which many of us probably need after March and April).

The Sun enters airy Gemini on May 20th, and we have a new moon in Gemini on May 25th, making our moods lighter so we can focus on new ideas, new plans, share what's on our minds, express ourselves, and be engaging. Let's throw out some of the wild and wacky energy lately - onward with upbeat vibes!

This month is best for: GEMINI

May 2017 Articles & Lessons

When to Learn to Cook

Maybe you're taking an interest in refining your culinary skills (or picking any up at all!), and wonder when would be the vest time astrologically. Food is governed by the 2nd and 4th houses, Taurus and Cancer, and Venus and the Moon. You can focus on cooking each month with the Moon is in your 2nd or 4th houses, and during the year, you can focus more on cooking when the Sun, Mercury, or Mars are in your 2nd or 4th houses, or when Venus is in your 1st, 2nd, or 4th houses. A new moon in the 2nd or 4th house can also bring out your inner chef, and can be a good time for cooking new dishes or for fun. A full moon in the 2nd or 4th house may be better for comfort cooking.

The years where Jupiter is in your 2nd or 4th houses, you can focus on cooking for a prolonged period and enjoy it more. While Saturn is in the 2nd or 4th houses, you may not be as interested or have the time. While Uranus is in the 2nd or 4th houses, you may be interested in unconventional cooking methods. While Neptune is in the 2nd or 4th houses, your focus on it can come and go, and while Pluto is in the 2nd or 4th houses, you can get obsessed with it at times.

Progressed planets in Cancer or Taurus or in the natal or progressed 2nd or 4th houses can also bring more interest in cooking, as well as the progressed Moon in the natal or progressed 1st house, or conjunct, sextile, or trine the natal Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, or Jupiter.

There's also asteroid Ceres, who governs cooking as well, so you can focus on cooking when transit (moving) Ceres is in the 1st, 2nd, or 4th house, is conjunct, sextile, or trine the 1st, 2nd, or 4th house rulers or cusps, or when a transit or progressed planet is sextile or trine your natal Ceres.

First Steps in Prediction

The very first consideration in prediction is the transit planets in the natal houses, first the outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto), and then the personal planets, minus the Moon (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars). Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are in a natal house for at least 1 year (Jupiter), up to a couple decades (Pluto), and they act to set the table. They bring steady, continuous energy for a prolonged period of time to the areas of life ruled by the house they're touring, so there's always energy and attention being brought to that house while they're there.

The Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars spend 1-2 months in a house, and bring energy there temporarily. But when an outer planet is already in the house and one of these faster planets comes to that house too, they ramp up the energy of the outer planet in the house and bring more attention and focus to the areas of life ruled by the house. This can often bring on developments, opportunities, plans, and ideas. When you see overlap between outer and personal transit planets in a house, you know that the period this occurs will be important for the areas of life the house rules. For example, if you have transit Pluto in the 4th house, whenever the transit Sun, Mercury, Venus, or Mars go through the 4th house each year, you have extra focus on the home, family, your emotions, and foundation (4th house).

After that, you should look at aspects by the transit outer planets to the natal planets and house cusps. Aspects last anywhere from a couple weeks (Jupiter) to a couple years (Pluto). Sextiles and trines bring beneficial energy, squares and oppositions bring challenging energy, and conjunctions amplify other aspects and the planets involved. Transit aspects by themselves can bring energy to the areas of life ruled by the natal planet being aspected, the natal house that planet rules, and the natal house that planet is located. When you have overlap with the transit planets in the houses, this can indicate important periods. For example, using Pluto in the 4th house, if you also have transit Saturn sextile your 4th house ruler, you can see more emphasis on 4th house energy while the Saturn transit is in orb.
