What Got You Out of Bed this Summer?

Braz Camp -- “I want to let you know how great this program is. I know often people only tell you what’s wrong. My 13-year-old daughter absolutely loves it. Besides the beach the only thing that gets her out of bed in the summer. Thank you all who run this program.“

Braz Camp Ends August 12

The final session of this summer's Braz Camp was on Friday, August 12. We finished with our traditional slushes (thank you Coach Tom Holleran).

And at least one parent (see above) may be wondering what will get her daughter out of bed for the rest of the summer. Coach Braz's answer? He sent an additional, complimentary week of conditioning so that athletes can maintain their Braz Camp edge to right before school sports begin.

Registration for next summer will be available later this year. In the meantime, you can see each program's website at these links --

The Numbers

The cross-country program had runners from 16 different high schools and 3 different middle schools. We had over 10 college runners from 9 different schools. The xc program had high school runners from the following conferences -- Merrimack Valley, Middlesex, Catholic, Cape Ann, Commonwealth, Greater Boston, Northeastern, and Catholic Central.

Athletes in the all-sports program ranged in age from 6 to 22, and they played the following sports: soccer, lacrosse, basketball, football, track & field, ice hockey, field hockey, baseball, gymnastics, tennis, dance, synchronized skating, volleyball, softball, golf, and cheerleading. And some were there just for the conditioning experience.

IMG 3448

Sure, there was a lot of running in xc. And a lot of core work.

IMG 4179

Sure, all-sports was on the turf field a lot . . . but those stadium steps always called.

Thanks to the Braz Camp coaching staff: Peter Cirafice, Colette Madore, Sue Kiley, Shane Braz, Pat Mayo, Patrick Pang, Scott Myers, Dan Harris, Moisse Irizarry, Kerstin Darsney, Nikki Ruggiero, Connor Donovan, Phil Cannon, Chris Morales, and Victoria Holleran.

Thank you to the athletes and parents who trust this program. If you have comments and suggestions for Coach Braz and Dave, send an email to dave@goingthedistancefb.com
