Special visit to Cisarua

In August our board member Ties and her husband Jan visited Cisarua. Our fieldworker Titi hosted their stay and showed them around the village. She also introduced them to the various projects (and the people involved) initiated and sponsored by Java Village. See here a photo impression of their visit.

In the morning a visit was paid to the local health centre, the posyandu. Ties and Jan witnessed the monthly visits when the babies are weighed, receive health care and vaccinations. For the older children a wholesome breakfast is provided with rice porridge and vegetables.

Ties and Jan also visited Odi and her parents. Odi is severely disabled. With support of Java Village she has a wheelchair and can go to Bandung for yearly check ups.

A visit to a local primary school was a great success. The pupils couldn't keep their eyes of the visitors! Through its Sponsor a Student project Java Village has been able to help pupils from this school.

Ties and Jan also joined a meeting of local women busy with making plans for Hari Merdeka, Indonesia's independence day on August 17.

Part of the tea factory was damaged by a severe fire in June. It will be restored, although that might take some time. In the meantime tea picking continues. Unfortunately the factory can now only operate at half capacity.

In the office of the kepala desa, the village head, a new library is in progress. As this is also a place with wifi, it attracts many youngsters. To stimulate reading the librarian in charge makes the children read first before they may use the internet.

Of course Ties and Jan had to meet the students who are in charge of the Rumah Belajar Cisago (learning centre Cisago). Java Village has provided them with the initial funds to start up.They are now looking for funding to realise an independent venue for their gatherings. They hope that the local district and the province will provide the necessary means to continue their activities
