Hana Kona x HBL Beer Release Party 7/05 (Friday)

This Friday Hana Koa Brewing Co. is releasing a beer in collaboration with Hawai‘i Bicycling League. Together we brewed a light and refreshing Kölsch with cucumber water and a touch of mint. This beer turned out super refreshing and 10% of the proceeds are going to HBL!

Join us at Hana Koa from 6-8pm on Friday 7/5 to celebrate the release of this beer and cheers to this great friendship.

Cycle Swap Meet! 7/07 (Sunday)

Calling all bike lovers, deal-enthusiasts, and thrifty-shoppers! HBL will be hosting the much loved – and much awaited for – Cycle Swap Meet! The event will feature folks from the cycling community, local bike stores, and bicycle-focused co-ops that will be selling an awesome selection of cycling stuff: bikes, accessories, bike parts & components, and other bicycle-related treasures.

Find second-hand steals this Sunday (7/07) at The Barn @ SALT Kaka‘ako from noon until 4pm (but for the best deals we recommend coming early!).

Lāhainā Noon Ride 7/15 (Monday)

Join Chris Salas at Old Stadium Park by 11:30am for a short urban bike ride down the King Street Cycle Track to witness Lāhainā Noon at the Sky Gate. Lāhainā Noon is when the sun is passing directly overhead and as a result perfectly vertical objects will not have a shadow. Afterwards we’ll ride to SALT for a sweet, cool treat from 7Gradi Gelato at 10% off.

HelmetGiveaway2024 newsletter

Using a bike helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 85 percent.

Bike Helmet Giveway 7/28 (Sunday)

If you’re under the age of 16 you are required by Hawai‘i law to wear a properly fitted & fastened helmet when biking. But because the law of gravity affects us all the same way regardless of age, HBL stresses that wearing a helmet is simply the smart thing for all cyclists to do.

To help those who don’t have a helmet yet, HBL is giving away over 300 free bicycle helmets on July 28th (Sunday), starting at 11am, at The Barn @ SALT Kaka‘ako. Each helmet comes with a complimentary helmet fitting to ensure the recipient gets a helmet that properly fits their head.

You’ve only got one brain – protect it when you bike!

A New Era of Decarbonization in Hawai‘i Starts Now

On June 20th, both sides in the Navahine F. v. Hawai‘i Department of Transportation lawsuit announced a landmark settlement heralding a new era for decarbonizing our transportation network. The court-supervised agreement aligns with Complete Streets policy and Vision Zero goals. Further, the State commits to building the complete network of safe bicycle, pedestrian, and transit networks, with a goal of completing this work in five years. HBL looks forward to working with all parties to realize the agreement in the months and years ahead. Learn more here.

Walk. Bike. Vote. - 2024 Candidate Questionnaire

In partnership with our colleagues at Kaua’i Path, Maui Bicycling League, and PATH, we recently contacted hundreds of public office candidates. Our aim is to educate them about key policies like Complete Streets and Vision Zero goals, as well as to learn their positions on these issues and let voters know where they stand. We will be publishing their responses on our website later this month.
