"What we do here has an enormous support system to there and what goes on there in Nepal has an enormous process to supporting temples around the world...at that particular location there are probably more temples en masse than anywhere else on the planet and its literally a place where Buddha lived and holds an enormous amount of value to the planet in relationship to a Monastery…his dharma life was actively manifested throughout that valley." The Monastery today, after the earthquake, is unsafe and needs to be rebuilt

The Shri Karma Raja Maha Vihara Monastery, situated on the northern side of Swyambhu stupa, was the main seat of H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje in Nepal. Regarding Swyambhu stupa, legend says that once the Kathmandu valley was a lake in which Swayambhu hill existed as an island. On top of that hill stood a natural crystal stupa. Buddha, when visiting the place, declared that it was a wish-fulfilling stupa and whoever is touched by the wind that passes over the stupa receives the seed of liberation from the cycle of existence.

The karma raja monastery is in terrible state. All of monks (about 60) have been moved to Raniban monastery near Balaju ,Kathmandu. Two old lamas were trapped when the earthquake hit but were rescued the next day and are now safe. Now all the lamas are safe at new monastery of Raniban but Karma Raj monastery is locked and no one is allowed to go to the top of Swyambhu Stupa except local residents.

According to The Swyambhu Buddhism Foundation, Shamarpa and Karmapa’s Karma Raj monastery on Swayambhu is badly cracked but standing but now needs to be rebuilt.

Our monthly support continues to go to the monks of the Monastery and we intend to do all that we can to help rebuild this sacred site. Over the years Buddha Maitreya the Christ has been enthroned at the Monastery on several occasions and also helped improve the monastery and monk's living conditions with significant improvements such as new kitchen, kitchen staff and fully furnished western style bathrooms.

Buddha Maitreya the Christ and Tara offer three free clinics and treatment centers located in cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and the village of Pharping and run by Dr Raj Pradhanang. Dr Raj also oversees and runs a Buddha Maitreya the Christ Soul Therapy Center in Thamel.

Dr Raj has shared the good news that the Swyambhu Clinic and Pharping Clinic are fine with only minor damages to equipment and medicines. We are still waiting to hear on conditions at the Bhaktapur Clinic which is still to dangerous an area to visit.

In the meantime, Dr Raj and the Clinic staff have begun helping local people, many camped in makeshift tents in fields close to the Swyambhu Center and is sending regular daily updates.

"I am sending some photos of the present situation near by our center. We went there and one of tent people said to give food and water.so we came back and bought food and drinking water to them. Some good tent people with facilities and they are on the ground due to fear. We have found people from different countries like Korean, Israeli and other are also helping with food. "Hello Buddha Maitreya, Mandarava, and all, This is lama wangtak. It was a very big quake. Thousands of people were killed and millions are injured, including myself and a Ani who stays at the centre and millions of houses were distroyed completely and millions are cracked. It's risky to live in. Electricity power was cut off for almost a week and phone lines were very weak. Your centre is also cracked from different angles and the walls are collapsed. Both Ani and I was inside the ground floor of the house when quake came. As soon as we run out to the front space, the bricks from the top of the building all falled above us and we were both injured. If you could help us , We will be very thankful as always. I always remember you all in my prayers."
Prayers,
Lama Wangtak,

How We Help

Since 1994, Buddha Maitreya the Christ and his wife Mandarava Tara have supported a multitude of projects in Nepal including Monasteries, their Rinpoches, monks and nuns, free clinic projects and many other individual sponsorships. Over $4.5 million has been raised and donated.

As a 501c3 US Non Profit and UK Registered Charity we have the infrastructure in place and the ability to get money to Nepal quickly and have it benefit many people directly on the ground and in the moment. Funds have been going out everyday since the earthquake took place.

Your donations are tax deductible and will make a huge difference to those most in need
