Greetings from Delhi where I'm on a mission to improve our Indian supply lines.
Last week I was telling you about our new "can you sell this?" videos you can read it here.

Back in Delhi I can tell you it is stinking hot. Even at 6am as we took a taxi to the central teain station it was over 30c at that time the roads were almost empty but I was struck and saddened by just how many people sleep outdoors, the pavements littered with ragged bodies.
Delhi station is heaving with humanity at any time we had to duck and dive, step over bodies and wend our way past a miriad of vendors to get to platform 16 on time.

Once on board our first class carriage bound for Saharenpur all was calm and orderly. A little shabby and old fashioned but jolly civalised. Tea and biscuits served beautiful , all today's papers and as we got underway a good breakfast served.

Last time I went to Saharenpur (wood craft city) it was by car. A big mistake.. the journey took all day on terrible roads and we arrived wrecked. The train is comfortable and takes just three hours.

We have trouble getting enough wooden stuff from our suppliers there. Orders take far to long, you can see we are often out of stock. So the plan was to add additional suppliers and get more products coming from more producers.

So we made contact with three potential new suppliers and told them we (our agent and me) would come and see them.

And guess what. They are all waiting at the train station looking for the English guy to come. And there also hopping from foot to foot dressed in imaculate white robes... our existing supplier with a very determined look on his face.

Dramatic stand off, and much pleading eventually we are pretty much kidnapped by our main supplier and bundled off to their factory.

There has been racial riots in this town recently. A curview has only just been lifted and the bright blue uniforms of the Indian army are everywhere. Not wanting to start trouble we went peacefully.

This is a woodcraft city.. huge logs roll in to town in piles on the back of bullock carts. And are shipped out as ornate boxes and carvings all over the world. Most shesham wood comes from here.

To cut a long story short we made a deal to let our existing supplier be our agent for other producers. Hopefully we can increase the supply lines... and keep the peace.
