"Who wants to become a writer? And why? Because it’s the answer to everything. … It’s the streaming reason for living. To note, to pin down, to build up, to create, to be astonished at nothing, to cherish the oddities, to let nothing go down the drain, to make something, to make a great flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus.”—Enid Bagnold

Poetry Perks is a friendly, instructor-facilitated, caffeinated, multi-session peer workshopping opportunity for up to 10 poets at a local independent cafe. Please bring 10 hard copies of 2 poems to each session (one double-sided page works great) and a red pen. Add Perks to your Alexandra Writers Centre experience! A Speaker Series: Writing Woes, Worries and Wows

On Writing Fiction with Lee Kvern and Ian Williams

Some writers make it look so easy. They sit down in front of the computer or on the couch with their notebook and write magic the first time out. Or do they?

Come out for an evening of informal conversation between two Calgary writers. Learn the good, the bad and the ugly of the writing process, from initial idea to publication. What do they worry about when sitting down to write? What do they struggle with? What is absolutely wonderful about it?

Over the next four months, eight writers, will discuss four genres.

Fun, lively and informative.
