Sunday's Service - November 8, 2020

Sermon Series ~ Shelter in Grace

The featured Scripture is: Job 42:1-6
for Mike's message: Shelter in Grace Part 6:
The Ultimate Discovery

As we stay in our ultimate shelter, we will find the ultimate discovery! This weekend we come to the conclusion of the book of Job, where he finally meets up with God and makes three powerful discoveries followed by one essential decision. His armchair-philosopher friends are silenced as God reveals Himself to Job. What he discovers about God and himself is humbling and insightful. ~ Pastor Mike

Children's Ministry

Collide Kids Wednesday - Don’t stop at accepting Jesus’ love for yourself. Put it into action by putting others first! In this four-part series, kids will learn that knowing about God’s love means nothing if we don’t accept it for ourselves and express it to others. We’ll find out what loving God and loving others looks like - accepting God’s forgiveness and extending it to others through love, forgiveness, and selfless service.

Grab your kid(s) and spend 25 minutes together singing, dancing, laughing, and learning! We would love for you to also have your child(ren) memorize this week's scripture verse and motions and upload a video of them in the comment section under the video on the CLC Facebook page! Have a great week, Collide Kids!

Youth Group

Kids in 5th-12th Grade ~ Sunday, 6-7pm
We had to unexpectedly cancel Youth Group last Sunday. As long as all goes well, we will meet as normal this Sunday! We'll have a lesson, a Thanksgiving-y project and, hopefully, time for a game. Hope to see the youth here this Sunday at 6:00.

Parents, we have a YG permission waiver we need you to fill out next time you're here.

About Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Bank is a member food bank of Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. The Food Bank solicits, stores, and distributes food to hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties; and provides education and advocacy. They believe that no one should go hungry, and are dedicated to building a community that makes food accessible to all people.

The Food Bank is a storehouse for large quantities of donated food and USDA commodities that are distributed to 160 hunger-relief organizations and programs located throughout our tri-county area. These member agencies include church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs.

Organizations cannot require any fees for meals or pantry bags of food. All products must be distributed at no charge to recipients, with no suggested or implied donation amount or volunteer requirement. Participation or attendance in a religious service or ministry in order to receive food or a meal is not permitted.

Encouragement

Thank you to Darla Smith for writing and Marcia Kreps for sharing Darla's uplifting words with us.

"Today is a beautiful sunshiny day here in Ohio. God has blessed us with His glory once again. I pray this finds you all doing spectacular! Basking in God’s goodness. No matter what may be on our plate at the present time."

"My word for this week is “IMAGINATION” – thoughts wrapped in a strong emotion. Oh, how a child’s imagination is truly priceless. Fun and happiness abounds. Unfortunately, as an adult, sometimes the enemy uses our own “imagination” to discourage, disappoint, beat down, give up, just to name a few. The enemy uses false “imagination” and deception to lead us away from God’s path. The cares of our life can overtake our thoughts and imaginations in such a negative way that the result will be negative consequences. We need to guard our hearts and minds with God’s Word. When all the cares of life are displaced, they can be replaced with God’s peace, comfort, and joy! Fellowship and relationship with God in praise and worship will stop the enemy in his tracks. When we stay in God’s presence, we will walk victorious and have heavenly “imaginations.” Can you just imagine what Heaven will be like? Let us keep our minds focused on heavenly “imaginations.” I CAN ONLY IMAGINE………."

"I pray the rest of your week is victorious."

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (MEV)

News of the Week

This week started out with snow and a walk in the woods to collect bugs for the frogs and toads and salamanders. Some of us enjoyed the white stuff more than others! Luckily the snow didn't stay around too long, because we still have work to do to get the property ready for a long winter's nap. We stayed very busy this week hauling mulch to fill in wet patches on trails, working in the greenhouse, and making jam. We also enjoyed giving a family a tour and showing them what kinds of things we do here. Today we are having a bonfire to burn one of our stick piles and we will be enjoying hot dogs and s'mores around the fire on this beautiful day. Each day at GG sure does bring new adventures!

GG Candle Fundraiser

In this very strange year, full of the unexpected, we decided to try something unusual at GG.
Hopefully this is a more fun "unusual" than many of the events of 2020 have been!

In order to meet our fundraising goals of the year, since so many markets and shows have been canceled, we’re partnering with Beaver Creek Candle Company on a fundraiser. We thought that this was the perfect time of year to sell these locally made candles, as people start thinking about the holidays and gift buying. AND, Goodness Grows will receive 50% of the price of every candle sold! All of the money will be put right back into our programs.

Another exciting thing about partnering with the Beaver Creek Candle Company is that they work with adults with disabilities, and every candle purchase goes to supporting their workers and facilities. So, it is a win-win all around! If you would like to learn more about this amazing candle company, check out their website at bccandle.com.

If you or your friends/family would like to purchase from this fundraiser, please let us know or order on the GG table in the Great Room. Orders and payment (cash or checks made out to Goodness Grows) due no later than the morning of Monday, November 30. We will then place the order and have the candles here 10-12 days later, in time for Christmas.

Thank you for your support of GG and for trying this new way of raising money with us,

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
