This is very easy recipe for side dish. Baba getting little bit tired of "light and breezy summer food." You cannot live on popsicle and salata! She herself is suffering from smoke inhalation due to BBQ and BC wildfire.

Baby potatoes is available, and is time to enjoy.

Caraway is what make real rye bread (not cotton crap at stupormarket) taste so good and make you feel like queen.

Caraway seed is from Ukrainian plant related to carrot and parsley. It not only taste good, it have medicinal property you really need to know. Is polite way to get rid your friend or husband of constipation and also farting like old cow.

Here we go:

Steam or boil 2 lbs. baby potatoes. Should just give little "pop" sound when you stick knife in them. Baba have soft spot for steam.

Baba Hint: cut potatoes in half before cooking. They will cook faster. For better flavor, do not peel.

In meantime, throw 3/4 tsp. caraway seed in medium hot cast iron pan. Heat for two minutes, till they smell good. They will not pop like popcorn. Baba know you hoping.

Add more butter than ingredient list recommend, which is 1/4 cup. You know you will.

Once pound of butter melt, add peeled and sliced garlic. Again, as much you like. Three clove will give good taste. Six will guarantee you can speak only to other Ukrainian for next couple days.

Pour potatoes into colander, and dab with paper towel.

Baba Warning: Unless you is some kind expert, do not pick caraway seed yourself. Plant is also related to fennel, caraway plant look similar, and your dish will taste like licorice. This is fit only for fancy schmancy Anglo Saxophone restaurant, where is $100 for dab on plate, and everyone pretending they like it.

Fry garlic only for minute, or it will burn. If you see garlic get brown, scoop out immediate! If you find your Ukrainian cooking have strange bitter taste, burn garlic is cause.

Throw in potato pieces. Be gentle, gentle when you stir. Baby potato have tender feeling. Stir until all side is coated with butter and caraway.

Baba's Baby Potatoes with Caraway and Garlic is good side dish for any kind meat, poultry or fish. Not herring.

Your option:

The Lazy Way: Use stupid frozen hash brown from freezer department. Throw into garlicky butter with preheated caraway seeds. Turn off lights so family don't have to look at this mess while they eat.

Where if not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven, for there, spread out on kitchen table was dozens of perogies.

Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted Ukrainian wife of sixty years, make sure he leave this world a happy man?

With one great final effort, he throw himself towards table, landing on his knees. His parched lips part. Wondrous taste of perogy already in his mouth. His withered hand tremble on its way to perogies at edge of table.

When it was suddenly smacked with a wooden spoon by his wife.

"Back off!" she yell, "They is for funeral."
