Help HBL with bike valet & get the chance to watch some top names in pro golf!

HBL x PGA Tour Sony Open Bike Valet

HBL is partnering with the Sony Open to help green their Kāhala event by encouraging people to bike to the tournament. We'll be offering bike valet for the four main days (Thursday to Sunday) of the tournament at Wai‘alae Beach Park in Kāhala.
We're looking for some golf loving volunteers to help out. There are 4-hour shifts in which you just in-take bikes, write down people's info, and make sure that they get the right bike back. We'll have a tent for shade, chairs to cruise in, food to eat, and on top of that volunteers get one free day pass to check out the tournament, which can be used any day you'd like!

Kam’s Helmets - Volunteers Needed Jan. 14th!

In May 2011, Kameron Steinhoff, a popular student-athlete on the Hawai’i Pacific University Men’s Basketball team, was in a skateboarding accident. He was not wearing a helmet, and passed away from head injuries several days later. To honour his memory & prevent accident related tragedies, HPU and HBL will be giving away helmets on Jan. 14th. Help give away helmets to children at HPU’s basketball game on Jan. 14th (SAT) by clicking here!

Biking bright means being visible, following the rules of the road, and riding akamai!

Support More Biking Bright

More than 50 bicycle riders stopped at HBL’s Bike Bright pop-up event at Hale Nalu Beach & Bike in Wai‘anae and not only received education about Hawai‘i’s law that requires proper lights when riding at night, but FREE bike lights and brand new helmets to help them biking bright–day and night.

HBL will be conducting a few more of these events in the month of January to promote safe cycling after sundown. Email HBL’s Director of Adult Education, Malia, for more info!

Hawai‘i Policy & Advocacy Training - Virtual Session January 7th

A collection of advocacy focused non-profits have organized online training to better educate local advocates about how to advance policy in Hawai‘i and turn dreams into action. While not bicycle specific, this is a great opportunity to learn insight from local policy and advocacy experts, tips on how to use various media platforms and engage a larger audience, and to ask a legislator questions.
Learn more here.

HBL’s advocacy committee will be meeting on Tuesday, January 17th. Email advocacy@HBL.org to get involved.
