October 22-26, 2014

This years Men’s workshop will be Ian’s last workshop before he is set to retire. Ian has been following the Tantric Path since 2000 and has trained with several organizations and individuals, including The Body Electric School, Bodhi Avinasha and IPSALU Tantra, Rudy Ballentine, Jack Painter, Michael Casteel, Mantak Chia, Margot Anand's Love and Ecstasy Training with the Institute for Tantra and Meditation, and numerous others.

Wildwood is honored to host his final workshop which will examine how our sexual story, body shame, habits, beliefs, and past conditioning prevent us from getting what we want in life and from showing up as our authentic selves. Participants will learn to connect more deeply with their innate erotic life force energy and how to utilize this energy for transformation, empowerment, heart-opening, and higher states of consciousness. Wildwood Welcomes Chef Mike

chef hat

Mike comes to us having cooked for large family groups in four mountain ranges: the Appalachians of Pennsylvania, the Smoky Mountains of Virginia, the Wasatch mountains of Utah and the Rocky mountains of Alberta, Canada. He feels quite at home in the Pacific Coast Range of Wildwood and the surrounding area. He also loves being back by the ocean, although he grew up along the flat beaches of Massachusetts rather than the rocky cliffs of Sonoma County.

Mike was here just a week as a volunteer before the opportunity to take over the reins from Darleen, who was the driving force in updating the kitchen and dining methods at Wildwood. While we are sad to see Darleen leave after her many years of service to Wildwood, we are excited she is starting another chapter of her life. We feel confident that Mike will continue to show how Wildwood is a place of healing and revitalization through one of its best-loved attributes, its great food.

“I’m happiest when I see people enjoying my cooking,” Mike says. “We have great volunteers who help me make great meals, and I appreciate the recent contributions Body Electric made to the kitchen fund.” Mike’s first purchase was a new mixer with lots of torque for large batches of dough. “Homemade cookies are on their way. I can’t wait for our guests to start sampling them come September. I am looking forward to cooking and living here at Wildwood.”

Wildwood Naming Opportunities

Wildwood Memorial Grove

Chester Mainard Meditation Platform after being refinished.

As most of you know, Randy Arnold is the founder of our sacred space, The Redwood Memorial Grove. Randy has been at Wildwood since the early 90’s, so you’ll see his artistic handiwork on countless items around the retreat center. Recently, Randy and his husband Greg refinished the Chester Mainard Meditation Platform and he is offering out four new chairs for that platform that we can place plaques on for memorial naming opportunities.

In addition, he has purchased a beautiful stained concrete bench which will be placed next to the Grandmother Oak tree looking west which will have a memorial plaque. Randy is calling this bench “the Lovers Sunset Bench.” Finally, we will be upgrading our benches at Julie Andrews Point to more heavy duty (4” x 12” redwood construction) benches. We have found that the wind and sun have been extremely harsh on the previous teak benches.

The suggested donation amount for these three naming opportunities are tax deductible and will be:

Chairs for Chester’s Platform - $500 donation
Lover’s Sunset Bench - $1,500 donation
New and improved Julie Andrews Point Benches - $2,500 donation

Of course, if you have a loved one that you want to memorialize in the Memorial Grove, engraved stones are available too, starting at $500.

Invest with your W.I.G.

Wildwood Investment Group

The foremost concern of the Wildwood Conservation Foundation board at this time is our financial health. In March we began the formation of The Wildwood Investment Group, aka W.I.G. In the past five months, we have successfully replaced all of Wildwood’s debt with private investments from our membership. This alone is saving Wildwood about $35,000/year in reduced interest payments. We are in the home stretch of completing this program. The next step is to raise additional money which will be our winter reserve fund. This way Wildwood can borrow against itself during the lean winter months instead of from high interest outside sources, and then repay itself in the Spring. W.I.G. investment plans are for either 5 or 10 year periods at interest rates from 2 to 4 percent. If you are interested in hearing more about the W.I.G. please call board member Martin Meier at 707-632-5200 or martin@wildwoodretreat.com
