News:

Not much news to report from Dark Pixie Land for the month of March. Which fits since we've got a Venus retrograde starting in March, so I'm sure we'll all be lazy to the max! Schedule lots of naps, that's my goal as a Venus-ruled Libra for March. More is to come starting in April, and especially May, but for now, it's a quiet time in March. Let there be peace . . .

March 2017 General Astrology Outlook

We're kicking off the month of March with Venus turning retrograde (appearing to move backward) on the 4th in fiery Aries, and well, there goes the fire! Usually with Venus retrograde, we become very lazy, indulgent, stubborn, selfish. At the start in Aries, tempers can flare and we can get into it with the people in our lived, having a hard time getting along. And we can have a hard time getting moving and getting started. Try to to work on finding your own way within your relationships without finding yourself all alone (and full of regret when it's over!).

Mercury enters Aries on the 13th and the Sun enters Aries on the 20th, so these two may bring more energy to the retrograde to either make things better or make things worse. Try to use the energy for the better, and work on talking things over and listening more (Mercury), and giving more attention to the things you've been ignoring (the Sun).

There's a new moon in Aries on the 27th, though it's not conjunct (aligned with) Venus, but it can bring more focus on the retrograde as well. Since it's a new moon, hopefully it's positive energy, and we can work on second chances and reconnecting (those positive retrograde effects).

Mars enters Taurus on March 9th, and Mercury leaves Aries and enters Taurus on March 31st, and this can add to our slow movements, but it can also make us work on trying to find more stability and security. Venus naturally rules Taurus, and Mars naturally rules Aries, so this can actually help the two of them work together a little better (a positive astrological position called a mutual reception).

The full moon for the month is in earth sign Virgo on the 12th, so we can finish up work and small tasks and chores and feel more productive and efficient, but we can also be more easily stressed out - I'm sure you know from what! So we'll all need to work on having an outlet for stress this month (a positive, not bad retrograde one, mmmkay?).

This month is best for: LEO

March 2017 Articles & Lessons

When to Climb a Mountain

This may seem like a strange topic, but lots of people climb mountains! Maybe you dream of climbing Everest or Kilimanjaro someday (not me, I’d die literally). So when is a good time astrologically to do something like that? This is a physical ordeal, so you generally want to see positive aspects - sextiles and trines - to the Sun (ruler of the body), and/or 1st house cusp or ruler (ruler of the self). It can also be helpful to have good aspects to the 6th house cusp or ruler since the 6th house rules health (so they help you to not suffer physically from the climb), as well as good aspects to the 9th house cusp, ruler, or Jupiter (especially if it’s part of some sort of competition). Positive aspects to your 10th house cusp or ruler can also be helpful since the 10th house is the highest part of your chart and can be seen as “hitting a high point”, getting to the “top” - of a mountain!

You’ll want to avoid it when you have hard aspects (squares and oppositions) to the Sun, 1st house cusp, or 1st house ruler, especially by Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto. Saturn brings too many obstacles, Uranus brings too much of the unexpected, and Pluto brings too much struggle (though Pluto can be good if your climbing is part of a transformation of the self that you’re going through).

When Venus Conjuncts Mars

Venus conjunct Mars gets a lot of attention wherever it pops up, whether it’s in transit, in the natal chart, in synastry, or in the composite chart. Why? It generates a lot of passion, intensity, friction, heat. It can be highly creative and full of energy, but it can be a little frustrating too. When Venus conjuncts Mars in the natal chart, this tends to stimulate a very healthy sex drive in the native (maybe a little too healthy sometimes!), though the degree to which depends on the sign and house involved. It can also stimulate a creative soul, and can be a source of creative energy that can be tapped into. Mars has a bad habit of overtaking Venus at times though, and so you’ll find many with this placement identify more with Mars than Venus, or come across in a more Mars-y way (more “masculine” or dominant). The trick with this position in the natal chart is to balance the energy of the two and not let Mars overtake Venus. She needs some say too!

When transit Venus conjuncts natal Mars or transit Mars conjuncts natal Venus, this usually stimulates a few days where you have a higher sex drive, more passionate energy, or a more creative approach. Again, this will largely depend on the location of the conjunction by sign and house. In the 3rd house, this may mean more mental energy and connection, while in Capricorn, this may mean more passion for goals and success. It’s important to use the energy with this transit though, otherwise you can get very grumpy and frustrated.

In synastry, this means one of your Venuses conjuncts the other person’s Mars, and this is a standout maker for major attraction between two people (and the closer they are to being exactly conjunct, the stronger it can be). The attraction can be instant and the chemistry strong, so much that it can almost be difficult to stop (if say, you’re already with someone else). When it’s an attraction you can act on (and has other healthy aspects to support it), it can keep the spark going much longer than usual. When you don’t want anything to happen, you may need to just stay apart though. Even if you don’t like each other, you may find that there’s still that chemistry there that can’t be denied, so go your separate ways.

With composite Venus conjunct composite Mars, this can be similar to the conjunction in synastry, but it’s generally felt more evenly between you, and can be something that bonds you together in a more harmonious way. You can find that together, you channel the passion between you easily through the sign and house location of Venus and Mars, and in a way that you don’t alone.
