We call on the Australian Government to:
- Abolish temporary protection visas
- Provide permanent protection so people can participate fully in the community and can rebuild their lives.

The Australian Government says that refugees and people seeking asylum who arrived by boat without a valid visa, should not be given permanent protection, even if determined to be a refugee. They are placed on temporary protection visas (TPV).

The lack of permanency causes harmful psychological effects, due to uncertainty about the future, the fear of being sent back to harm, the lack of family reunion, and the inability to properly build a new life. TPVs limit education and employment opportunities, block pathways to citizenship, and restrict people’s freedom to travel to see their families.

Many TPV holders have contributed to the Australian community economically and socially for almost a decade. Their children have grown up in Australia. These refugee families should be able to call Australia their permanent home.

Join us in peaceful solidarity to demand permanent safety for refugees.
