Always wonderful to come home to at the end of the day....

In January, we talked about some reasons why you should choose a GLH for your new log home: We are more than just Oak logs. But the #1 reason we hear people say they chose us for their home is because we offer Oak logs. Although we are the worlds leading producer of Oak, we do offer Eastern White Pine, Cypress and Cedar. We know the pros and cons of all the wood species. We can provide an unbiased conversation on why one may be better for you vs the other. It does not matter to us which species you buy so you know you are getting an honest answer.

This Pine log home in Kansas has a metal roof. You can find metal roof suppliers in our Rewards Program.

In February we detailed the Top Ten Mistakes We See People Do When Building a Home: After 40 years of helping people build homes, we have a pretty good idea of the most common mistakes made and how to make the process easier for you. In this months issue of the Oak Leaf, we share our observations. Hopefully this will prevent you from making these mistakes!

A walk out basement virtually doubles your living space. The windows and doors allow lots of natural light so you don't "feel" like you are in a basement.

In March we discussed why a log home is a HEALTHY home! We spend a large portion of our life inside our home. Shouldn't it be a healthy choice? In the March Oak Leaf, we explain how living in a log home is good for your health. And good for Mother Earth.

Features like these stone columns and custom railings can greatly influence your "cost per square foot."

In April, we delved into The Myth of the Cost Per Square Foot.Every day, someone asks us "What does it cost per square foot to build a log home?" The best answer is "What is the cost per square foot for a custom home built in the area where you want to build? Because it is going to be about the same price if they are built to the same level of amenities and design." Why is this the best answer? Explaining the Myth of Cost per Square Foot is the focus of the April Oak Leaf.

Understanding the Differences between Log, Post and Beam and Timber Frame Homes was explained in the May Oak Leaf. A lot of people do not understand the similarities and differences between these three types of homes. At Gastineau, we can design and provide you any of these homes. In this months newsletter, we will explain and show you the differences.

What areas do you need help? In the June 2016 Oak Leaf, we looked at the many ways we can help! For a lot of years we have assisted people to achieve their dream of living in a log home. During that time, we have learned a lot of ways we can help our prospective homeowners and make it easier for them to move forward. Some people need guidance with the design and/or how to place the home on their property. Others need a connection to a builder. While some others need advice about obtaining financing. In this Oak Leaf, we will explain how we can assist you with some of these challenges.

In July, we shared Ten Great Log Home Ideas: The creativity of our customers never ceases to amaze us! In this issue of the Oak Leaf, we shared some of our favorites. Maybe you will incorporate these into your log or timber frame home!
