Gavin Johnston eyes his target! PC Laura Johnston

SNSC Junior Racers, Joe Winkelaar and Gavin Johnston have just returned from a very cold weekend of racing in Burns Lake at the Biathlon BC Cup #3 event. Waking up to -34 degrees delayed the start of the race a bit on Sunday, but still the bitter cold temperatures were no match for these "wet-coast" biathletes. In Saturday's Sprint Race, Joe finished 3rd, earning a Bronze medal, with a shooting accuracy of 80% in the Sr. Boys 6.0 km. Gavin placed 4th in the Jr. Boys category with 50%. In Sunday's Pursuit race, Joe placed 5th with 75% accuracy in his shooting, while Gavin narrowly missed a Bronze medal, finishing in 4th place with 46% accuracy due to a little technical oops.

On Saturday, February 24th, Vancouver Island Biathlon Club is hosting an Olympic Spirit Fun Club Race, with lunch to follow. The race is open to anyone 11 years and up. Registration deadline is Thursday February 22nd, 10pm. The race notice and registration form is available on the club website at The February club newsletter is full of details of the last month's Biathlon BC Cup results and other club happenings.
