Dear Friend,

On June 1, 2015, the Transportation Policy Board of the Alamo Area MPO announced a call for projects for consideration and possible inclusion in the upcoming Transportation Improvement Program for our region. The 2015 Surface Transportation Program - Metropolitan Mobility (STP-MM) call has approximately $100,000,000 in funds available.

In addition, in this issue, we want to invite you to take part in the VIA Vision 2040 survey, which is available until July 4, 2015. All of these stories, and more, are included this week - and can be found below this letter.

Remember, our focus at the MPO - We PLAN to keep you moving!

Have you wanted to take part in one of our Street Skills classes but driving into downtown San Antonio has kept you from signing up? Come join us on June 17, 2015 at REI in the Huebner Oaks Shopping Center for our next Street Skills Class!

Sign up here to take part in the class on June 17, 2015 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

What is Street Skills?

This free, 45-minute program for adults and mature teens will cover important street riding information in a quick, off-bike session. Join fellow bicyclists (and bicycling new-comers) to learn from the MPO's Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Planner in an informal, classroom-style presentation and discussion. The MPO's Street Skills class will provide concrete examples of city cycling scenarios and how best to handle them so that you enjoy pleasant, stress-free rides. Each class participant will receive a helmet and bike light set, thanks to funding through a 2015 TxDOT Safety Grant. Advance registration is requested of all participants; walk-in students are welcome but are not guaranteed a helmet and light set. Street Skills classes are open to adults and teens who are at least 14 years old. Participants between 14 and 18 years old must attend with a legal guardian.

Question of the Month: How can I improve my gas mileage while driving this summer?

Answer: Whether you are taking a summer road trip or just running errands around town, there are things you can do to improve your fuel economy and save money on fuel in the summertime.

You may notice an increase in your fuel economy as the weather gets warmer. This is because vehicle engines, transmissions and other components take less time to warm up and summer gasoline blends can have slightly more energy per gallon than winter blends. However, if you use your air conditioning (AC) a lot or drive with the windows down, you might actually see your fuel economy drop.
