Cancer. The “C” word. What’s up with that? I wondered when I first received the news. My mind was spinning and then I received the most unusual gift: A BAG IT bag to help me process the coming days, months and year ahead. For a moment, I had a flashback of birthday parties when I was a little girl and the guests would all receive a little token for attending the party. Now I was the recipient of the most wonderful present a girl newly diagnosed with cancer could receive.
BAG IT helped me to organize my health records, had informative booklets, and even had questions to ask doctors about the process during a time when focus was lacking because of fear and depression. To have the books written with a warm and informative voice felt like a loved one was embracing and talking to me, giving me the tools and courage to forge ahead into the eye of the storm.
I have such warm gratitude for the BAG IT organization and am so thankful to have received something so helpful, positive and meaningful during a dark period in my life.
