To celebrate World Environment Day the Bellamy Museum is hosting a wealth of demonstrations and activities on Sunday, June 7 from 1PM. This free community event is fun for the whole family and includes:
▪ WAVE Transit and their new natural gas powered bus on its first public appearance! ▪ The NHC Arboretum will have a plant clinic with a Master Gardener on hand to answer your questions. ▪ Weaver Wade Toth will demonstrate weaving with recycled materials. ▪ Artist Melanie Walter will be discussing recycling long leaf pine needles into baskets and ornaments.
7 Rs for a Better Planet!
▪ Cape Fear River Watch will be presenting three programs on their work safeguarding the environment. ▪ Designer Marcia Bruder will be assisting children in a Make-and-Take activity to make ornaments from natural and recycled materials.
▪ NHC Soil and Water Conservation are talking soil erosion and rain barrels. ▪ NC Cooperative Extension highlight rain water harvesting. ▪ JB Lawn Sprinklers demonstrate how they made the 150 year old Bellamy cistern supply our irrigation. ▪ NHC Public Library will discuss their take on recycling - book sales, battery collection and the library concept itself. ▪ We will draw for you to win Wilmington Water Tours tickets for historical and environmental tours. ▪ Bonnie Monteleone of the Plastic Ocean Project will discuss the results of pollution of our oceans. ▪ We will have eco-related coloring projects for the very young and word searches and crossword puzzles for older kids. ▪ Not to mention 'green tours' of the Bellamy site itself!
