You heard me! Ice cream is actually considered a pacifying treat for Pitta-types. While it might be too cold and heavy for Kapha-types, and too cold for Vata-types, it is perhaps the perfect treat for overheated Pitta, especially during the summer months.
Sweet is a balancing taste for both Vata and Pitta (Not for Kapha, I'm afraid. They are already sweet!) So if your constitution is Vata-Pitta, Pitta-Vata or just plain Pitta, relax and enjoy this sweet treat.
When Vata Season rolls around in the fall, it's a good idea to taper off in the ice cream department. So enjoy it while it's having a positive effect on your body.
Of course, dear Kaphas, this doesn't mean you can't ever enjoy an occasional ice cream. But if you find yourself getting congested and producing lots of mucus, that's your body's signal to lay off of dairy in general, especially cold ice cream.
And of course, there are people who just plain don't tolerate dairy well, so use your own body as a guide.
Choosing ice cream made from organic ingredients and fresh fruit (preferable local) will make this treat even healthier. I can really taste the difference.

Okay, it's hot and steamy here in Jersey City today so I think I will venture out to one of the local ice cream shops I've discovered! Strawberry is my favorite flavor - what's yours?
