Hi Member,

Two new blog posts this week. :)

The first is all about Our Pets Health - a website and supporting social media that provides pet owners with quality, veterinarian created information. It was launched in November 2017 by Dr Alex Avery who writes, produces and publishes all the content (blog posts, podcasts and social media posts)....AND he's still a practising veterinarian. I'm seriously impressed with what he has achieved so far & you can find out more in the blog post below.

We've probably all had experience with a friend, family member or colleague suffering from mental health problems, and sometimes it can be really challenging to know what to say. The last thing you want to do is say the wrong thing - but what's the right thing? This week, Guest Blogger Rosie Overfield provides a list of 10 things not to say and more importantly, 10 things that will help to support those who may be struggling.

Also this week, I have a favour to ask.....
I'm in the process of designing an advertising kit for veterinary suppliers who may be interested in joining our business directory and I realised that your opinion of our Community could be a great help. So if you like what we do I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

And of course, last but absolutely not least .... today is a very special day.

It's Vet Nurse Day!!!!

And I think the VNCA says it well:
"Vet Nurse Day provides an opportunity for the veterinary industry and vet practices to acknowledge the important role that vet nurses play within the veterinary medical team and reinforces the value and professionalism of veterinary nurses. Vet nurses are highly skilled, have ever increasing responsibilities and play a valuable role, whether in surgery, practice administration or consultations."

Our aim is to help you - save time, connect & discover!

Enjoy your reading :)

Our Pets Health - helping to educate pet owners online (Guest Blog Post)

Our Pets Health is a website that provides quality veterinarian created pet information. There's also a FB Page, YouTube, Instagram & Twitter accounts. Considering it only started in November 2017, Alex is a one-man-band AND a practising veterinarian, you can see why I was so impressed!

10 things to say (& 10 not to say) to a friend suffering mental health problems (Guest Blog Post)

You may have a friend, family member or veterinary colleague suffering from mental health issues. But knowing what to say to offer help and support can be a challenge. You don't want to say the wrong thing. So what are some things you can say?

A super big Thank you! to all the Vet Nurses in the Vetanswers Community :)

Celebrating Vet Nurse Day 2018

Celebrating Vet Nurse Day 12 October 2018

"Veterinary nurses are celebrating Vet Nurse Day on Friday 12 October 2018. Vet Nurse Day provides an opportunity for the veterinary industry and vet practices to acknowledge the important role that vet nurses play within the veterinary medical team and reinforces the value and professionalism of veterinary nurses. Vet nurses are highly skilled, have ever increasing responsibilities and play a valuable role, whether in surgery, practice administration or consultations. Vet Nurse Day is also a time for grateful pet owners and the wider community to say ‘thank you’ to their local vet nurses for who they are, and what they do best."

Got a minute?

Have you got a minute

I need your help.....

After a difficult year, I'm pushing ahead with developing Vetanswers into a bigger and better Community.

An important part of that is to build up the Business Directory, which has been sadly neglected (and is the important financial backbone of Vetanswers!).

I'm currently designing an advertising kit to help give veterinary suppliers who may be interested in joining our business directory, an idea as to what Vetanswers is all about. And I figure an important part of that could be some thoughts from our Members.

This is where you come in...

If you enjoy what we do, could you please jot down a couple of sentences explaining what it is you like about being a part of the Vetanswers Community?

You can either email me: judyg@vetanswers.com.au
OR
Visit the Vetanswers Facebook Page & leave a review (hey - 2 birds, 1 stone! :) )

Do you have a cohesive team..ALL the time?

How to Get Your Employees on the Same Page

By Monica Dixon Perry CVPM (Veterinary Management Consultation)

I thought this post asked an interesting question:

“How does a practice’s owner and manager get all of its employees on the same page?”‍

This can become especially difficult if your practice is growing, or if you've recently experienced some staff turnover.

So what do you need to achieve cohesion?

1. The practice has a clearly stated mission statement that is adopted by each team member; It not only drives the practices’ operations but the actions of each individual.
2. The practice has a strong manager with excellent leadership skills to oversee the practice and the team. ‍
3. The practice’s management hires “the cream of the crop” support staff to build a team of “10” employees. ‍
4. The practice consistently conducts engaging team meetings. ‍

Ok I admit... I've never heard of feather grafting!

Another great Facebook Post from a veterinary practice, this week it's from Champion Lake Vet Centre in WA:

Feather Grafting on a Raven

A simple post with 6 photos and an overview of how Dr Colin performed feather grafting surgery on a raven, made for some interesting reading.

It also received nearly 120 reactions, 25 comments and 22 shares!

(btw...If your practice has an interesting FB Post, let me know and I'll share it with our Community :) )
