Dear Makutsi e-Drum Readers,

2019 - The year of very few Makutsi e-Drum Newsletters...Yes we know that we have not sent you as much information as we could have, and would have liked to.

Regular updates via our social media channels Facebook and Instagram have also made it easier to "wait just a bit longer" before the next newsletter. But not everybody follows (or likes to follow) social media, so we really would like to keep on sending you some updates every now and then which actually arrive in your mailbox.

As we are approaching yet another festive season, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and send you a few short updates and guest photos from 2019.

Short 2019 Update

As usual we had many wonderful clients all year through, and it was a pleasure hosting you all at Makutsi.

Nevertheless, we found time to get a few other things done as well...

▪ We broke down our old Rondavel Nr 42, and replaced it with a new large family Rondavel ( 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living area and covered terrace). We now have a total of 5 of these extra large family Rondavels, which can comfortable accommodate larger families (up to 6 in total) or couples wanting to stay in the same Rondavel but have their own bathrooms.

▪ As the warm mineral spring water in our pools and rooms is an important attraction to our clients, the availability of this water is something crucial. For this reason we have 2 underground water pipes that can feed the pools as well as the holding tanks. One of these pipelines was seriously damaged by the elephants last winter, so we took the time during our closure months in June to dig up the old pipes and replace them with new one's. It is never nice to do some temporary damage to the garden, but just a few months later and everything looks like normal again.

▪ We also have to give a very big "well done" to our hard working anti-poaching team, who work day and night to keep our wildlife safe. Another year of zero wildlife losses to poaching on our property, that is a job well done! Thank you also to all the clients who booked a Heli Patrol Flight on Makutsi, as this certainly greatly assists the team in their efforts.

▪ Throughout the year many of you have continued to bring little items for the schools that we support in the area. Just recently we visited one of the orphanages that we support, and delivered many of the boxes that we have collected. Thank you all so much for making the effort and for bringing some donations, it really makes a world of difference to these kids.

▪ As we all know, nature is all about "survival of the fittest" and old age is often the beginning of the end. Unfortunately both our male and female cheetah in the north were approaching this old age, and passed away, due to natural causes, in short succession. Thanks to our very loyal and long-standing relationship with EWT (Endangered Wildlife Trust), we were lucky enough to receive first a new male (Mavara), and only a few months later a new female (Jasmin) cheetah. Both of them are still adapting to new life at Makutsi, but it looks like they are happy with their new surroundings.

Of course, we cannot send you any updates from Makutsi without sending you some amazing wildlife photos to trigger those Makutsi Memories.

So without further ado, we hope you enjoy a few incredible photos from guests who have visited us in 2019. Words do not make these images any better, so just enjoy...
