"ABS"OLUTELY IMPORTANT TO ENGAGE FOR A DEEPER LOWER BACK STRETCH!

Have you overworked or overtrained your muscles? Feel the need to stretch out your tight lower back muscles? Here's how you can deepen your stretch and hang in a therapeutic forward fold by engaging your abs for a profound release.

Contracting the abs has two important effects. It has the biomechanical effect of flexing the trunk and deepening the pose and the physiological effect of inhibiting the back muscles from contracting, relaxing them into the stretch. A cue for isolating the transversus abdominis is to draw the navel towards the spine. Feel how this cue gives an added support to the low back as you forward fold. Keep knees bent to start off with and grab opposite elbows to deepen the stretch. Hang for 3-5 minutes and breath deeply. As you do so, your hamstrings will slowly start to stretch out aiding in double dose of lower back decompression. Enjoy!

CARB CYCLING DAYS!

Confused about carbs and how they fit into carb cycling? Believe me, you’re not alone! Many of my most frequently asked questions are about carbs. And yes, with all the talk of “carbs this” and “carbs that” in the media, it can get a bit confusing. It gets even more complicated when you think you need to keep track of grams of carbs per meal and per day and the “good” vs. the “bad.” So how do carbs fit into our carb cycling program? It’s actually pretty simple. Click {HERE} to read further!
