Filling Time

Hi Member,

Most weeks this introduction writes itself, but occasionally - like this week - it doesn't. I'm not sure why. It doesn't have anything to do with the content. I think this edition is just as jam-packed as usual but the words aren't flowing. It's even the right side of midnight, so I can't blame tiredness.

So instead of writing, then deleting, then writing & deleting again, I've spent the time putting together the images on the right - thanks to my favourite tool Canva.

Keep scrolling and you'll find a huge array of content to keep you busy - and next week I'm sure I'll be back to my usual soliloquy.

Have a great week :)

Our aim has always been to help you - save time, connect & discover!

Enjoy your reading :)

Fixing the veterinary profession before it's too late (VIN News) - Part 2

'The profession cannot afford to do nothing' economist says

By Michael Dicks

Last week I shared the first in a series of posts by economist Michael Dicks, discussing why he believes the veterinary profession isn't performing to the expectations of those involved, and suggesting strategies for improvement.

You can click here to read last weeks post: Fixing the veterinary profession before it's too late.

In the second post, Dicks focuses on:

'Inertia in the veterinary profession - 'Perpetual motion machines' inhibit change....

"Why is it that everyone wants change, but nobody wants to change? In the U.S. veterinary profession, the list of wishes is long and ambitious: Lower student debt. Higher veterinary salaries. Better compliance by clients. More freedom by doctors to practice the type of medicine they deem appropriate. Less time spent on paperwork. The list goes on.

While all the goals are attainable, reaching them requires changing current processes. Sounds simple enough, yet the profession just keeps on keeping on, doing the same thing the same way, day after day."

Yoda..not...reduced

Not Yoda, I know but best I could do with free images :)

All I Need to Know in Vet Med I Learned From Yoda - Dr Jessica Vogelsang (Dr. Andy Roark Blog)

Whether you're a Star Wars fan or not, I'm sure you're familiar with Yoda. In this post, Dr Jessica Vogelsang channels Yoda's wisdom (and speech patterns!):

1."The fear of loss if a path to the dark side."

Dealing with the anger of clients can be a challenge - but responding to anger with more anger is not the solution...

2."Size matters not. Look at me."

In humans and in animals...appearances, in general, can be deceiving...

3."Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the force"

"Of all the crazy Veti powers we have, I think many of us would agree that being with our clients in the moments of a pet’s transition is among the most awe-inspiring and powerful....You can take a time of horror and dread and make it ten times more traumatic, or you can bring people an incredible level of peace. Choose well. It is a true honor and responsibility."

4."If you end your training now - If you choose the quick and easy as Vader did you will become an agent of evil."

If you feel like you're surrounded by "internet experts" - be patient... "This stuff always falls apart in the end when it’s no longer in vogue and the world moves on to their next diffuse enemy and life-saving snake oil. You, on the other hand, will always have your integrity."

5."In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights the way."

"If you find yourself in a dark place, reach out. There will always be someone to grab onto your hand.
If you are in the light - be that hand for others..be someone's Yoda..."
