Women's Potluck is Back!

Happy New Year! Time to kick-off Women's Potlucks for 2018. Mark your calendars for our first potluck on Thursday, January 18 at 7:00 at Helen's house (845 Ashland Ave. NE). This is going to be pretty laid-back. No fussing, it’s all about the fellowship not the food. Bring whatever you’d like, and maybe something for the bar. We just want you to come! Please let Helen know if you're planning coming: helen@hvcatlanta.com

We’re also looking for 8 people to sign up to host over the year (we take April, November and December off). It’s not hard to host, just provide plates, forks, glasses and napkins (paper and plastic are cool). You don’t have to prepare anything, unless you want to, and you don’t have to coordinate a meal.

E Oliphant

IPC Book Club is beginning its third year!

To shake things up we’ve chosen to read fiction for the first time! Our new book is Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman, which is getting rave reviews. While it does not have overt religious themes, we’ll use it to talk about ways in which God is working in our world and in our lives.

If you’ve never come to Book Club we hope you’ll join us! We meet twice a month for 1 1/2 hours and always have rich discussion.

We’ll meet at Kristen's house (889 Euclid Ave NE) Wednesday 1/17 at 7pm. We’ll meet at Lisa Yates’ house 1/31 at 7pm.

Journeys With Jesus, A Study of the Gospel of Mark

The gospel of Mark describes discipleship as being willing to journey with Jesus. Join in a new Adult GROW Group in January as we read through Mark’s account of what it means to follow Jesus.
We will meet in the Library on Sunday mornings @ 9:45 beginning January 7. This study will be led by Pastor Max.

organ

Organ Repairs

Thank you to everyone who donated towards the repair of our organ! Repairs began this week. We will be without the organ during worship for the next couple weeks while the pipes are getting rehabbed. Most of the parts in need of repair are original to the organ. Once they're back in place we'll hopefully be in good shape for another 85 years!

world prayer

Ecumenical Prayer Cycle

As a way to remember our connection with Christians around the globe, we will start using a great prayer tool: the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle. Each week of the year a number of countries are highlighted to lift up in prayer. There are also prayers written by Christians in those countries that you can use. By following the cycle throughout the year, you would pray your way around the globe. We will start listing the different countries each week in our prayer list.

For the week of January 14 pray for: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen

To find out more and to find links to the prayers from countries around the world click here.
