Cultural exhibits abound in La Antigua Guatemala, a world-class tourism destination.

The photographer's "Afghan Girl", the unforgettable image on the cover of National Geographic in 1984, impacted the world as the face of every war refugee, and is on display right now in Antigua.

For Casa Muriel residents and guests, we organize escorted outings every week, to engage our minds, nourish the soul, and to learn something new every day.

The Cooperación Española Centro Cultural presents fascinating art installations, informative academic discussions, and dance or music productions featuring performers from all over Europe and the Americas.

With pre-arranged transportation and easy access with mobility for seniors, attending this chamber music concert was a breeze.

Guatemalan Indigenous Traditions

The Museo de Tejido gives us a close-up view and guided tour of the production methods of the weaving experts in San Antonio Aguas Calientes, just west of Antigua.

In the center of town, we visited the Manos de Maya, a women's sewing co-operative. This organization offers local women the training and materials they need to produce a gorgeous line of unique Guatemalan fashions for sale, providing economic opportunities not otherwise available to them.

The Lavender Farm

Getting out in nature with fresh air and volcano views offers a different perspective of the surrounding environment. It was cloudy and cool when we visited the Lavender Farm, but the mountain breeze and dreamy floral aroma made for a lovely afternoon.

On Wednesday September 20th, we will be hosting the monthly luncheon event at Casa Muriel Retirement Home in Santa Catarina Bobadilla (south of Antigua), for residents and neighbors.

We'll serve a delicious lunch, listen to a presentation by a medical professional, and enjoy lively conversation - in both English and Spanish. The guest speaker (a local doctor) will be confirmed soon, so watch for your email invitation next week.
