We resumed our Whispering Pines volunteer day on Monday and enjoyed seeing our friends there! We have our first classroom on the calendar, with Leetonia jumping back into Tuesday visits in September...in less than three weeks! Where has summer gone? | On Tuesday, Sue and the crew made buffalo chicken dip, even cooking their own chicken for it! They also treated us to fresh veggies, chips & salsa, fresh fruit salad, and ice cream with homemade chocolate sauce. (Thanks, Sue!!) Can't wait to see what they make next week! Tuesday was also exciting because it brought us a very special visit from Miss Kelly Shannon as well as her friendly boyfriend, Josh! You can imagine all the smiles when Kelly walked in!! We have been busy this week caring for our crops in the front raised bed gardens, the front greenhouse - where we have some new beds, and all the beds and gardens outback. We have also been making jam like crazy, as we sold out of several flavors last week at the two big shows we had. That is definitely a great problem to have! | Eggnog & Sara Visited! Last Friday we were so lucky to welcome Sara Coinin and her bunny, Princess Eggnog, from the wonderful non-profit F5RS - Frisky Ferrets Fuzzies Feathered Friends Rescue & Sanctuary. Eggnog is in training to be a therapy bunny...and she sure provided therapy to us! Therapy bunnies get to visit nursing homes, the Ronald McDonald House, and even libraries for the "Read to Some Bunny" program. We are collecting and drying weeds and produce to help provide the bunnies with tasty food and treats. If you want to learn about bunny diets, check out the info sheet on the bulletin board. To learn more about this rescue, click: BUNNIES. To learn about adopting their rabbits, click ADOPT. | Bags for Sale Have you seen our newest project? Our clients, staff, and a mission group worked together on these gorgeous tie-dyed bags. We are selling them for $6 each and all proceeds will go right back into our mission. | Butterfly Time August means it is time for one of our favorite things ~ butterflies! Our folks have been collecting and caring for caterpillars for weeks now. (For a while, we were afraid we wouldn't have many this year. But we actually have a "bumper crop" of the little crawlers!) Now they are starting to form their chrysalises and hatch as butterflies. We have already enjoyed a couple butterfly releases. Anything that is clean and in good repair that you think someone else might be able to use! Date for Giveaway Set ~ Saturday, October 12th, 10am-1pm! | Food for the Rescue Mission Last Friday, a community member and former Columbiana store owner stopped by with a mountain of boxes full of scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. She and her mom had rescued the food from a refrigerated truck driver after his delivery was refused at a local restaurant because they were overstocked. The driver was going to have to throw all this food away in order to pick up his next shipment! Luckily, the lady thought we might know where it could be put to good use. On Tuesday, we delivered it to the Rescue Mission to be enjoyed by their clients and residents. We are thankful that this community member stepped in and that we were able to help move this food to where it will do some good. | For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me. .....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.
