No Prizes for Diagnosing What Ollie Swallowed!
Ollie is a five year-old Spoodle who presented to us recently for acute abdominal pain, initially it was thought he may have over-indulged on bones, however his X-ray (see above) showed otherwise:
A two-inch long sewing needle! OUCH!
The needle was surgically removed from his bowel, complete with string still attached (it had taken a circuitous path causing scarring throughout his abdomen en route) and Ollie has continued to make a fortunate recovery. His case highlights the dangers that lurk in unusual places for our pets, foreign objects such as needles and string are more commonly ingested by cats who like to play with them, however as Ollie proved, dogs may also be attracted.
