Sheriff Melvin Andrews,Investigators and Deputies continue getting Drugs of the Street with Another Arrest

On September 6, 2017 Elbert County Sheriff’s Office along with officers of Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1733 A.M. Grizzle Rd., Dewy Rose, GA. which resulted in the arrest of two subjects on drug charges.

Michael Steven Oglesby, 49 years of age of an A.M. Grizzle Rd., Dewy Rose, GA address was arrested on charges of:

Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute
Possession of schedule II drug with intent to distribute (2 counts)
Possession of schedule III drug with intent to distribute
Possession of drug related objects
Possession of marijuana, less than 1 oz.
Forgery in the Second Degree
Drugs not in original container (4 counts)

Andrea Porcher Prater, 49 years of age of an S.Lake Drive, Thompson, GA address was arrested on charges of:

Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute
Possession of drug related objects
Possession of marijuana less than 1 oz
Possession of schedule V drug with intent to distribute
Possession of schedule IV drug with intent to distribute
Possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute (2 counts)
Drugs not in original container (4 counts)

The Latest National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg Report has the Northeast Georgia area receiving 3-6 inches of total Rainfall and Isolated Tornadoes Monday evening into Tuesday Morning. Wind gusts could be up to 30-50 MPH in the immediate Elberton area. Irma is still expected to be a MAJOR Weather event for the Elberton and Northeast Georgia Area. Elberton is in the Moderate risk category for EXCESSIVE rainfall during this event.

HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE MONDAY NIGHT...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a High Wind Watch, which is in effect from Monday morning through
late Monday night.

▪ LOCATIONS...Northeast Georgia, the western Upstate of South
Carolina, and the southern mountains of North Carolina.
▪ HAZARDS...Strong winds will combine with increasingly saturated
soils to bring down trees and possibly power lines.
▪ TIMING...Winds will increase Monday morning becoming strong by
afternoon. The strong winds will continue into the evening.
▪ WINDS...Northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
▪ IMPACTS...Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power
lines. Scattered power outages are expected.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Wind Watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph...or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.

Elbert County is under a FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a Flash Flood Watch for a portion of northeast Georgia,
including the following areas, Elbert, Franklin, Habersham,
Hart, Rabun, and Stephens.

▪ from Monday morning through Tuesday morning
▪ Showers associated with the outer rain bands of Irma move in
from the south on Monday. Rainfall intensity will steadily
increase and become heavy during the afternoon and continue
Monday night. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 4 inches, with locally 5
inch amounts across the mountains, will be possible by the time
the rainfall rates taper off early Tuesday morning. This could
be enough for flash flooding to develop.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Mr. Sidney Luther Scarborough

79, of Scarborough Rd., Elberton, GA passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Mr. Scarborough was born July 30, 1938 in Elberton, GA to Luther Scarborough and Sallie Kate Lovinggood Scarborough. He was a member of Elberton Pentecostal Holiness Church and was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers in Hartwell where he worked in the maintenance department.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Ruth Crabb Scarborough, daughters-and sons-in-law: Peggy and Aaron Garland of Elberton, Gail and Mike Bridges of Elberton, GA; brother: David Scarborough of Elberton, GA; sisters: Anna Belle Leard of Hartwell, GA and Christine Mobley of Mableton, GA; grandchildren: David Bridges, Levi Garland, Erin Garland and a great-grandchild: Kylie Bridges.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister: Kathleen Scarborough Peppers.

Memorial services to celebrate Sidney's life will be held 11AM, Wednesday September 13 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bryan officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11AM just before the service at Berry Funeral Home.

Flowers are optional and memorials may be made in his memory to Mercy Ministry, 822 Heard Drive, Elberton, GA 30635.

The family would like to thank the ICU Department and the 2nd Floor Oncology at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital for their excellent care and support as well as the cards and outpouring support from numerous friends and family.

Berry Funeral Home & Crematory of Elberton is in charge of the funeral arrangements for Mr. Sidney Luther Scarborough.
