Both Frank Snyder and Pastor Mike estimated that 300 people came in the first wave of attendees. (David Bodendorfer's daughter Mindy proclaimed it "a herd!") We easily helped over 400 people by the time the day ended. We also quickly filled up our 50 spots to receive Thanksgiving dinner through the 4th Annual Turkey Jive Drive! It is sobering to see the need that is here in our valley...but it is also a blessing to be part of helping to meet some of those needs! Thank you for all you have done, are doing, and will do to help our community! There are enough items left, and we have received enough requests from folks, to have the warehouse open again this Saturday, October 22, during the Apple Butter festivities! Jen Lynch will be up there from 10am to noon with Giveaway Part 2 in order to let more community members have a chance to see if we have something they could put to good use. ~~~ | 2nd Annual Apple Butter Day THIS Saturday, 9:30am to 7pm(ish) Participants will be able to take some home and Goodness Grows will use the rest for fundraising again. But all the work will be worth it as we enjoy wonderful fellowship and end up with those beautiful jars of this seasonal treat! | What would a church gathering be without food?!?! How can we pray for you? We are here to pray with and for you, anytime! Prayer needs sent by early Monday morning will be included in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week! | Encouragement Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing and Darla Smith for writing these weekly bits of encouragement. "I pray your week has been a wonderful one so far. The weather has surely changed here in NE Ohio, but the colors are spectacular. We had special services at our church this weekend and I am still reeling from them. The Holy Spirit showed up in a huge way and lives were changed. How blessed we are. During the services I heard something that I had heard many times before but really stuck with me. We need to learn to REST in Him." "Yes, you probably figured out the WORD for this week, “REST.” How many of us feel tired and worn down from everyday life? We are so busy hurrying here and there – leaves no time for “rest.” We are already on the last half of October. Hard to even fathom that one. When the disciples and Jesus were in the boat and the storm came, Jesus was napping or at “rest.” Monumental lesson here. The disciples got so anxious and worried (sounding familiar) they woke Jesus up. The couldn’t “rest” in the fact that they were with Jesus. Did they really think Jesus would let them perish? (Again, sounding familiar) Jesus can handle ALL our needs – He really does not need us to worry and jump to our own conclusions. He needs us to “rest” in Him. One definition of “rest” is to be free from anxiety or disturbance – imagine that! We need to let the Holy Spirit take control, lead, and guide us. Our lives would be so much better. I have a hard time when I try to “rest” because a million things run through my mind of what I should be doing instead. This is for me especially this week and I pray it is speaking to you as well. I bought my husband a T-shirt last year that said, “Jesus took naps – be like Jesus”. It sounds funny but are we being like Jesus really? We need to be just like Jesus in every way. Love, listen, care, show grace, forgive, show grace again, “rest”, and show grace again. There are so many other things I could say, but you get the picture. Remember, the storm will go on around us – so you might as well get some “rest” with Jesus as it passes. Jesus is all we need! He will take care of us. I pray we all get “rest” in Jesus.” "Jesus got into a boat, and his followers went with him. A great storm arose on the lake so that waves covered the boat, but Jesus was sleeping.”_ ~ Matthew 8:23-24 (NCV) | October Worship ~ Online & In-Person Pastor Mike Hileman ~ Sundays at 11:00am We're excited to welcome you to Worship, in church and online! ~~~ | Dates For Your Calendar ▪ CGCC Congregational Meeting - October 30, 12:15pm ▪ Potluck Luncheon - November 6, 12:30pm ▪ CLC Annual Congregational Meeting - November 13, 12:15pm ▪ Turkey Jive Drive Pick-Up Day - November 19, 11am-1pm ▪ Community Thanksgiving Service - November 20, 7pm ▪ Collide Thanksgiving Dinner - November 30 ▪ Christmas Dinner - December 4, 12:30pm ▪ Christmas Caroling - December 11, 12:30pm ▪ | CGCC Congregational Meeting - October 30, 12:15pm | ▪ | Potluck Luncheon - November 6, 12:30pm | ▪ | CLC Annual Congregational Meeting - November 13, 12:15pm | ▪ | Turkey Jive Drive Pick-Up Day - November 19, 11am-1pm | ▪ | Community Thanksgiving Service - November 20, 7pm | ▪ | Collide Thanksgiving Dinner - November 30 | ▪ | Christmas Dinner - December 4, 12:30pm | ▪ | Christmas Caroling - December 11, 12:30pm | | October 30 is Benevolence Sunday On the 5th Sunday of the month, we take a special offering for the Benevolence Fund.
