Sup. Kiefer's amendment would cut $3.5 million to help build this trail.

Drastic cuts must be opposed

Supervisor Timothy Kiefer is proposing drastic cuts to budget items that would improve our parks and clean our water.

Amendments by Supervisor Kiefer to DELETE this funding from the Capital Budget:

• $1,800,000 for the Dane County Conservation Fund;
• $1,400,000 for the Stormwater Controls - Urban Sewer Replacement Fund;
• $1,000,000 for Yahara Clean implementation;
• $550,000 for the Lake Preservation and Renewal Fund;
• $144,000 for clean beach treatment;
• $25,000 for weed cutter equipment;
• $10,000 for the water partnership grant program;
• $60,000 for Tenney Lock improvements;
• $7,500 for buoys and lights;
• $25,000 for lake management repair parts inventory;
• $3,500,000 for construction of part of the Lower Yahara River Trail;

Two important amendments deserve our support

1. The amendment by Supervisor Carl Chenoweth to ADD $250,000 to the Legacy Fund to implement Yahara Clear Lakes Initiative projects in Cherokee Marsh including carp removal and shoreline stabilization.

2. The amendment by Supervisor Kyle Richmond to change the match ratio for the Silverwood County Park Development Fund from 2:1 private/public to 1:1 private/public funding. Silverwood Park is in Albion, just 24 min. from downtown Madison. Though the county was given the land, it has not yet been made into a park. It has a vision similar to that of Fitchburg Fields, and when it is completed it will teach kids about growing food in an environmentally responsible way. (I am on the Advisory Board.)

We can have the 1st all-county, all-sector clean energy transition plan in WI!

But only if we can get this amendment passed Tues. at the ZLR Committee meeting.
Please attend or contact the committee members!

What: Zoning & Land Regulation Committee (ZLR) – FY16 Budget hearing
When: Tues. Oct. 27 7 p.m.
Where: Rm 201 City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Madison
Why: to support Sup. Wegleitner's amendment to add $50K to the county budget for a strategic action plan to transition Dane County to 100% clean renewable energy by 2050 or earlier.

How would you like to live in the county with the best climate and energy action plan in the USA?

Here’s how you can help make that possible, with either or both of these two actions:

1) Contact the members of Dane County’s ZLR committee (info below) and ask them to vote YES on Supervisor Wegleitner’s budget resolution.

It amends the executive budget, adding $50,000 operating funds for a strategic action plan that will provide a Trail Map for all-sector, all-county strategic action on energy and climate.

Thank Supervisor Kolar also for her past sponsorship of the baseline inventories that will be used to craft the Trail Map.

Ask each of the ZLR committee members to sign on as sponsors for Supervisor Wegleitner’s budget amendment.

2) Attend the ZLR meeting Tues. Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
Register in support of the Wegleitner amendment (it likely will be named ZLR-2) ; if your time permits, speak in support. (TIP: If you need to leave before the meeting ends, arrive early, so that you can register/speak early.)

Thanks to the First Unitarian Society for a generous donation!

On Aug. 30 I attended the First Unitarian Society's service at the Frank Lloyd Wright church, and the congregation donated half of their collection to the WWPC, in recognition of our work to preserve Lake Waubesa and its wetlands!

If you would also like to support our work, please send a check today to: WWPC, P.O. Box 258525, Madison, WI 53711. Thanks!
