Living Collectively
I Corinthians 12

The early church set an example of what it means to live collectively. Because of “mission drift” many churches today resemble a collective group of individuals living for themselves. Christianity has become more self-centered vs. God-centered. God calls us to be active, sleeves rolled-up, hands dirty, meeting people where they are, and using our spiritual gifts to make disciples and to reach the lost. Together we will explore chapter 12 of the book of Corinthians and draw out three key truths that will help us restore God’s design for a community of believers.

Operation Christmas Child

SAVE THE DATE: November 16th will be our all-church Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing party. It will be right after the church service with a light lunch being served. All are invited to stay and help put together our shoe boxes. We want to pray that we can be a blessing by bringing joy and the Good News of the gospel to children around the world. We also want to pray that God would work in each of us as we assemble the boxes. We hope to make each box more personal by having everyone enclose a note and picture. We encourage everyone to bring family pictures or school pictures to attach to the notes to include in each box. This puts a face and personal concern to the child who receives the box that you packed. Donations are still needed. Toothbrushes (boys), socks and underwear (boys), small toys and stuffed toys are still needed. And we will need the $7.00 per box shipping costs. Check out our display in the foyer and get any questions answered about Operation Christmas Child. WE ENCOURAGE EACH OF YOU TO BE PART OF THE MINISTRY OF SHARING THE GOSPEL TO CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD.

Child Dedication

We will be having a child dedication on Sunday, December 14th. This is an opportunity for parents who want to dedicate their child to the Lord and publicly profess their commitment to teach their child to know, love and follow God. We encourage this ceremony because it underscores the high calling God has given every Christian parent. This call in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 is to love God with everything we have and to teach our children to do the same. If you are interested in dedicating your child, or have more questions, please contact Melanie Kruse.

Grief Class, Everyone Welcome!

October 26 - November 23 | 9am Sunday mornings | Module 2

What do you do when a loved one dies? How are you supposed to feel when you find yourself unemployed or even unemployable? Is there a way to face the losses in your life that can make the nights bearable? Grief is the experience we all go through when something or someone is taken away from us. That feeling of emptiness, being robbed, the sorrow, anger, and emotion are part of that experience we call grief.
Over four Sundays we will explore the following questions together: “What is grief?”, “What is happing to me?”, “What do I do?”, and “How Can I Help?” This class begins October 26th in the Middle Module. If you are experiencing grief or even want to know how to help someone work through their grief, I encourage you to join us.

Persecuted Church

NIGERIA: Pray for John Yakubu, Tortured for Faith

John Yakubu, a Nigerian Christian, was tortured by Boko Haram terrorists recently for refusing to convert to Islam. After surviving multiple attacks by Boko Haram in the Gwoza area, the 43-year-old believer had escaped with his family to a refugee camp in Cameroon. Unable to feed his family, he returned home to sell some of his animals.
When members of Boko Haram saw him enter his house, they captured him and demanded that he convert to Islam or suffer the consequences. John refused to convert, so the terrorists tied him to a tree and cut both of his hands with large knives. When they again demanded that he convert to Islam, he replied that they could kill only his body. The terrorists continued to cut him on the head, back and legs, finally leaving him to bleed to death.
John was later rescued and taken to a hospital. Speaking to a VOM contact, he said, "I have forgiven the Islamic militants because they did not know what they were doing."

Prayer Points
• Thank the Lord for John's extraordinary courage and faithfulness to stand firm. Thank the Lord too for the grace He has given John to enable him to forgive his attackers.
• Pray John's ordeal will not be in vain but the Lord may use this testimony to help others know and understand our Lord.
• Pray the Lord will protect, preserve and provide for Christians in Nigeria and surrounding nations; may they see His Miraculous hand at work.

Discovery Series: Evangelism | Module 3

7 week class beginning November 16

Israel: Past! Present. Future? | Module 1

There are many in the Christian community who believe Israel has been replaced by the Church. This "spiritualizing" of prophecy certainly affects the way we view end times events, and in some cases has actually led to anti-Semitism. Therefore, how we interpret the bible will determine the answer to the question, does God still have a plan for Israel today and in the future? We will explore this question this fall to see what the bible clearly says about Israel. This class is led by Jim Draper.

Jeremiah: the Man, the Message, the Ministry | Great Room

Throughout history, the nation of Israel, the New Testament Church, and our nation today have continually rejected godly instruction in order to embrace a world view of ungodly living. Jeremiah faced the same challenges that Paul faced with the New Testament churches and that our Christian community faces today. Come with us as we use Jeremiah's experience to learn how to live rightly in an up-side-down world. This class is led by Paul Lantz.
