AFGHANISTAN

Taliban ‘takeover’ of American university sparks outrage

In what appears to be an expropriation by the Taliban of buildings on leased land, Taliban authorities in Afghanistan are planning to transform the American University of Afghanistan, the private non-profit Western-style academic institution, into their own self-styled Afghan International University (AIU).

Micro-credentials: An important part of a bigger ecosystem

Compared to macro-credentials, such as full degree or qualification programs, micro-credentials can be a tool to downsize and shorten longer learning programs for greater agility, flexibility and diversity. One of the most critical issues related to micro-credentials is their recognition for further study or employment by government authorities, higher education institutions and employers. Without recognition they cannot be integrated into national and international learning ecosystems.

Girls’ enrolment keeps dropping at colleges, universities

Women’s education in Bangladesh has been a success story so far. Girls have continued to outnumber boys at primary and secondary levels, accounting for more than half of school enrolment. However, the situation does not remain the same once it's time for college and university.

Morocco Requires TOEFL and French language mastery for Ph.D. Candidates

Starting from this school year, PhD candidates in Morocco will have to provide proof of English and French language mastery through TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and DALF (Advanced Diploma in French Language) certificates.

PAKISTAN

New grading system for matriculation and intermediate examination results

Pakistan is considering a new grading system for matriculation and intermediate examination results. The present six-point grading system has A1, A, B, C, D, and E grades which would be replaced with nine-point grades that is A+, A, A- and B+, B, B-, followed by C, D and E.

TUNISIA

University graduates protest amid growing unemployment

The unemployment crisis in Tunisia is hitting the country again, despite the decline in the second quarter of this year to 15.3 per cent. It peaked last year in the third quarter at 18.4 per cent. Unemployment is especially high among university graduates, and there are moves to activate a law approved by the now dissolved parliament (Law No. 38 of 2020) to hire the long-term unemployed. President Kais Saied has repealed the law.

Editor-Credential Evaluation Report Review

Experienced international credential evaluator to join ACEI’s editorial team to assist with the review of final evaluation reports. The individual is responsible for reading content of final reports, reviewing information on the applicant’s application form and educational credentials to check for errors and areas to refine the report. Their duties include maintaining close communication with other members of the editorial team and credential evaluators, referring to style guides and published print and electronic references to verify and improve the content and making corrections to grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes, program requirements (institution status, entry criteria, duration of program) as well as US educational equivalence recommendations. Global Credential Evaluator

The global credential evaluator will evaluate academic credentials from around the world for U.S. educational equivalence in accordance with standards and policies followed by ACEI and those approved by the International Education Standards Council and the Association of International Credential Evaluators. This position is open to trained and experienced freelance evaluators with knowledge of global education systems and U.S. educational equivalencies. For more information, click here.
