Purkal Bulletin - September 2014

The highlight of the month was the Giving Week observed by the School and Friends of the Society commencing from 26th September 2014 on the occasion of Mr. Swamy’s Birthday to the 2nd October 2014. During the week the students were sensitized about the Giving Back to the community in any manner they can. A list of activities observed by the students during the week is as follows

Giving Service: Shramdaan: All the students participated in a cleaning activity on the 2nd October. They cleaned the whole school and village. The waste was segregated and sent to the compost pit or the recycling unit. Each group was mentored by a teacher. This is a weekly exercise now.

Giving a Thought: Awareness Marathon: The whole school ran with posters on T-shirts and messages painted on their T-shirts promoting thoughts on giving in different ways to the environment.

Giving Life: a Blood Donation Camp was organized on the 26th of September by the staff and students of PYDS-LA. A total of 37 blood units were collected.

Giving Love: Children brainstormed on acts of compassion and followed doing them throughout the week along with their parents.

Giving Unity: A workshop was conducted by Dr. Bhupinder Singh, Urja Purush of Uttrakhand on how to use Solar Energy and other non- conventional sources to save electricity. The fight in today’s world is for energy and if we build self sustaining households by using solar energy the world will be a more peaceful place. We planted a Harmony Tree to remind people of Unity in diversity on the concept of “Maiti” a tree a thought for everyone who sees it.

Giving a helping hand: Fundraising for J&K Flood victims saw students begging for help from people. They collectively raised an amount of 41,000/- rupees during the week.

A National Essay Competition was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education on occasion of Gurutsav on 2nd September 2014. 10 of our students from different classes participated in the competition. Muskan Godiyal a student of Class 8 from our school won the 1st prize in the category VI to VII competition from Uttarakhand and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- along with a voucher of Rs. 1,000/- for books at CBSE Regional office Dehradun.

Teachers Day was celebrated on the 5th of September 2014. During the event the students played the role of different teachers. Each student also wrote a Thank You Anecdotal addressed to several teachers appreciating kind acts their teachers had done for them. Two appreciation windows were created in the staff room for teachers to appreciate each other. A special lunch and tokens of appreciation from Stree Shakti were distributed thanks to Puneet Sir.

Apart from all these activities the students of classes 1 to 8 went for several field trip inside the city. These included trips to Buddha Temple, Deer Park, UREDA Energy Park etc.
