June Event post

Report Information Evening

On Wednesday 19th June at 7:30pm, we will be holding a short reporting information session about how to read a Compass report and to unpack the new Maths curriculum. A webex link for this session will be sent out via Compass.

This session will also help you to prepare questions you can ask at your child’s Parent Teacher Interview on Monday 24th June.

Reports

Twice a year, parents receive a written report which provides a teacher judgement against the Victorian achievement standards assigned as a score which reflects where each student is along the relevant learning continuum for all curriculum areas taught.

To gain consistency in the progression point achievement scores, teachers use three key forms of information: they share student work samples and analyse the skills demonstrated within that work, they review progress notes made throughout the semester (learning intentions, success criteria and goals attained) and moderate these against standardised test scores. The semester report will indicate whether the student is working at the expected year level (a dot will be within a yellow band), or above or below the standard. A second dot will show where the student was when that curriculum area was last assessed for you to see how much growth has been made. Due to the new Mathematics curriculum, you will only be able to see your child's achievement in Mathematics for Semester 1 2024.

The semester report will be published on Friday 21st June via Compass. You will receive a Compass notification informing you of when they are ready to be viewed.

Parent / Teacher Conferences

An important aspect of the reporting process will be the Parent Teacher meeting scheduled for Monday 24th of June. These are 15-minute interviews on school site which will provide families the opportunity to discuss their child’s achievements, social development, and future learning goals. Please make sure you take the time to read your child’s report before your conference time.

Parents were sent a Compass message today that the Bookings are OPEN, please make sure you log in and book your time!

Accidents, Illnesses or Injuries at School

At Malvern Valley Primary School, we have staff trained in First Aid. If your child has minor injuries (cuts, grazes etc) or says they feel unwell, staff will be providing the first level of support through minor first aid treatment (ice packs, rest etc) and monitoring. Our experience over the years shows that when students are told they can go to First Aid during recess or lunch, they suddenly feel better. Students will only be referred to the First Aid room if the child continues to feel unwell or the injury is a little more serious.

For serious injuries or sudden illnesses, parents will be telephoned, and if necessary an ambulance will be called. When a child attends the First Aid room for treatment (eg. asthma monitoring, larger wounds, students with doctor provided health care plans) parents are contacted by phone. Please phone or email the office if your contact details have changed (including emergency contacts).

Accident Insurance

Public schools do not have a whole school policy to cover accident insurance. The Department of Education’s position on insurance for school injuries is set out below:

The Department does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents/carers of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs. Where there is no whole school policy in place, it is the responsibility of parents/carers to look into their preferred options in this regard. The Department cannot provide advice to parents/carers on the purchase of individual student accident policy or ambulance cover.

Personal Goods Brought To School

Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. The Department of Education does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it will generally not pay for any loss or damage to such property. Parents are asked to discourage their children from bringing to school any unnecessary or particularly valuable items.

2025 Prep Enrolments and siblings

A reminder to our current families that if you have a child starting Prep in 2025 that you must submit an enrolment application. All families must submit an application form for their child by 26th July. If you do not submit your application form, then you may miss out on an enrolment place for prep 2025. The application process allows us to plan the prep grades for 2025 as well as if we accept enrolments from out of the zone. Enrolment applications submitted after 26 July 2024 will be processed by the school as they are received, in accordance with the Department of Education's Placement Policy.
Assembly

We look forward to seeing you all at our next Assembly on Friday 21st June at 2:45pm. 5/6P will be on stage to present an item to the MVPS community.

The program is in place to assist families who may need some extra support from time to time. Should anyone require some additional support such as meals, second-hand uniforms, or assistance with pick ups/drop offs then you are able to make confidential requests by emailing MVPS Principal Amy Tinetti or emailing FOMV directly at fomv@outlook.com.au

FOMV is also seeking new helpers to join the database. If you have the capacity to be on the FOMV database, please email fomv@outlook.com.au and specify the types of assistance you can provide.

Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme

MVPS is now registered to receive donations through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme. Together we can make a positive difference to our environment and our school community. We encourage all MVPS Families to return eligible bottles/cans to the Oakleigh Return It Depot (Oxford St, Oakleigh). Once your donations have been fed through the machine click on ENTER SCHEME ID and scan our school barcode (attached), and your donation will be made to the school. Keep your receipt and give it to your teacher when we return to school and the winning class at the end of each term will receive a class prize! To check eligibility of containers just look for the 10c mark or visit cdsvic.org.au
