Prayer 7

Join us this month as Christ’s Church Militant here in earth to raise our voices in PRAYER and SUPPLICATION to our heavenly Father as his wrath is revealed in PLAGUE or common sickness as COVID-19 cases rise exponentially after the holiday season:

O ALMIGHTY God, who in your wrath sent a plague upon your own people in the wilderness, for their obstinate rebellion against Moses and Aaron; and in the time of king David, sent a plague of pestilence that killed seventy thousand, but remembering your mercy spared the rest: Have pity upon us miserable sinners who now are visited with great sickness and mortality; and in the same way that you then accepted an atonement and commanded the destroying Angel to cease from punishing, so may it now please you to withdraw from us this plague and grievous sickness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAY for all health workers and first responders who minister to the sick with COVID-19:

ALMIGHTY God, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ went about doing good, and healing all manner of sickness and disease among the people: Continue in our hospitals his gracious work among us especially in this time of plague and pandemic; console and heal the sick; grant to the physicians, nurses, and assisting staff wisdom and skill, diligence and patience; prosper their work, O Lord, and send down your blessing upon all who serve the suffering; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sermon 2

   •    Give THANKS for the distribution of effective vaccines to arrest the life-threatening complications of COVID-19 for the men and women most at risk. Give THANKS that our clergy and members of the parish have received their first and second vaccinations.

   •    Give THANKS for J’s parents as his assessment is completed and a strategy for his care is set down. PRAY that the new round of therapy and counseling is effective and for J’s parents, for wisdom.

   •    Tuesday 16 February was the seventh anniversary of our first public worship as a new congregation. It’s impossible for us to avoid the conclusion that without God’s grace and provision, our fragile church plant would end. We’ve known that our flight from the wickedness of The Episcopal Church meant we had little time for humanly “strategic” planning, but relied on God’s assertion that unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. We PRAISE and THANK our heavenly Father for the certainties of his promises and the peace that comes with knowing that he is both sovereign and seeks our good. PRAY that he would protect All Souls and continue to provide for us with everything we need to continue our witness of the gospel, Jesus Christ – including people.

   •    Both All Souls Life Groups continue dedicated to godly learning and prayer. Our men’s group continues a study of Carl Trueman’s The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self with the ladies likely joining them in the same study after completing Michael Allen Rogers’ What Happens After I Die?. We THANK God for such a consistent commitment by our members to their groups. Please PRAY that God will continue to guide us as we consider items for future study. PRAY that he would impress upon on our members the vital necessity of such study.

   •    Feedback from members on our sermon series on the Letter of James continues to be positive. Give THANKS to God for overseeing our sermon program. PRAY that his Spirit would use tomorrow's sermon to stir up greater eagerness to serve. PRAY that God would help me to know what to preach on in James 3-5.
