We can not believe how quickly Term 1 is going. Over the last few weeks our students have been immersed in their learning and have taken part in many engaging experiences. In Year 3-6 our Academy program is up and running. This term students are learning all about the Design Thinking Model through the lens of a “SPACE TO DREAM DESIGN THINKING CHALLENGE” where they are tasked with inventing their own sport or game. We are looking forward to seeing what ideas they come up with. Our Grade1 and 2’s are scientists and are learning about chemicals, describing and comparing observable properties of everyday materials. In Inquiry, our Preps are learning all about themselves, what their character strengths are and how a growth mindset will help them learn.

Our students are not the only learners at MVPS, our teachers are as well! This term teachers have been part of professional learning in mathematics, you can find out more about that below, and Inclusive Classrooms with our Inclusion Outreach Couch Jenny. We value the importance of continually building the capacity of our teachers and we will share with you all of learning throughout the year.

Child Safety

A friendly reminder to all parents to please not talk to your child or other children over the fence during break times. We are noticing that parents are walking or driving past and stopping to call out to children. We know you miss your delightful children, but this breaks our Child Safety Risk Management Plan. All parents are to come into the office when entering school grounds. As a school we are conducting community circles on being safe at school and being safe in the community.

Review update

Our Leadership Team has been very busy over the last few months gathering evidence for our school review and evaluating our 2019-2022 School Strategic Plan. On Monday we had our Validation Day, where our review panel came together to begin diving into our data and conducted classroom observations.

Our Review Panel members are:
Jermey Ludowyke - Reviewer
Kevin Murphy - Senior Education Improvement Leader
Challenge Partners - Natalie Rose from Ripponlea PS Principal and Melanie McLennen from Wattle Glen PS Principal
Vicki Christofilopoulos - MVPS School Council President
School team - Amy Tinetti, Acting Principal, Casey Gould Acting Assistant Principal, Stephanie Pollard Learning Specialist and Laura Crothers P-2 Leader.

Next week is our Field Work day, where some students, staff and parents will be meeting with the panel to share their wonderings. We will continue to share our Review process with the community over the coming weeks.

Curriculum Day

Our Curriculum Day last week was a huge success. Our teachers were busy working with our MAV Consultant Renee, continuing to embed our Maths Instructional Model. They worked as a group, but also in their teaching teams, with a particular focus on ensuring our maths lessons are extending our students and providing them with problem solving skills.

Our Education Support Team were also busy learning. They were working with our Inclusion Outreach Coach to build their understanding of inclusive classroom practices and getting our Ready to Learn room set up for our students.

Well done team! A great day of learning that is certainly going to improve the wellbeing and learning outcomes for our students!

We are extremely lucky to regularly receive lovely new books in our school library. So, we are seeking a number of volunteers to help with book covering, the more volunteers the lighter the load. Before you get worried about your covering skills, we use quality contact that makes the task easy and can even be repositioned!
This is one of the only volunteer jobs that can be done at home and at your own pace. If you are interested, a box of books can be arranged to be collected from the office. The box comes with covering materials, all you need from home is a pair of scissors. When they have been covered, simply return them to the office. If you would like to be added to our book covering roster, please let the office know.

Thank you
Jo Alfano
