A Taste of West Berkeley
Secret Gems of the East Bay
Many of us have heard of the Gourmet Ghetto in North Berkeley, but West Berkeley’s culinary scene is also filled with an eclectic mix of delicious international and local specialties, Go behind the scenes with chef Terry Betts on a stroll through her West Berkeley neighborhood to get a taste of the diverse delicacies in this area’s most exciting eateries! Here are just a few of the tour stop options: Morell's Bread, June Taylor Jam, Cultured Pickle Shop, Vik's Chaat House and Cafe Rouge. We’ll end the day together enjoying the offerings of the Sierra Nevada Torpedo Room. |
Into the East Bay
The Land and its Stewards
Explore pathways of time and place on this journey through the East Bay’s least visited and most enchanted landscapes. Immerse yourself in land stewardship stories of the past, present, and future -- learning about the history of Native American and early settlers while visiting a variety of farming, ranching, and ecological restoration sites. Guide Grey Kolevzon, a veteran teacher of ecological science and sustainable agriculture, will lead us through stunning rolling hills where we can enjoy and appreciate the majestic oak trees and diverse wildlife of the East Bay. Bring your bike or walk the approximately 5-mile round trip. |
Field to Forest
Sabor Mexicano, Forest View Apple Ranch and Armstrong Redwoods Park
Immerse yourself in the best of nature and agriculture in Sonoma County on our Field to Forest Tour, featuring three adjacent scenic destinations in the Russian River town of Guerneville. We'll start at Sabor Mexicano, a ten-acre organic farm with goats and chickens. Proprietor Jorge Saldana, a third generation farmer, farms organically using heritage seeds from his native Mexico, to provide the finest ingredients for his two restaurants (in Berkeley and San Francisco). Your charming and experienced guide, Aspen Madrone, will share permaculture principles and information about watershed health, while facilitating an understanding of full spectrum agriculture. Then we'll head across the road to Forest View Apple Ranch, an eighty acre heritage apple orchard with over 20 varieties. Enjoy a tour of the property, sample amazing apples, and learn how to make the best tasting cider anywhere! Lastly, explore the wonders of Armstrong Woods, which we'll access from a private trail leading directly into the park. |

Next we'll pass through the old town Abajo neighborhood, winding down at Oxbow Commons.
