Need any ideas on what to get that special someone for Valentine’s Day? We have an awesome deal this month. It is called the Hot 100*. Give your significant other an inventory of their man cave or woman’s nest, that way they will know exactly what they have and so will you. And with every inventory we do in the month of February you will receive a FREE fire extinguisher.

Flooding

Do you know the saying, “when it rains it pours”? Well in this guy’s preparedness world I like to say “when it rains it floods, or could flood”. Several months ago here in Fayetteville, it rained hard and there were flooded roadways everywhere. There were nearly 84 rescues from stranded vehicles. No one was injured to my knowledge but the reality is it did flood. Several years ago and back in the 80’s some dams failed. Just goes to show that things do happen. Here are a couple tips to consider.

1. Do you have flood insurance? Do you need flood insurance? These questions could and should be answered by your agent or you could contact Flood Smart
2. Flooding remains one of the top weather killers in the U.S., with the average number of annual fatalities totaling near 90. More than half of these fatalities are vehicle-related. The National Weather Service has been working to bring those numbers down and, for the past decade, has been doing so using its “Turn Around Don’t Drown” campaign, which is dedicated to teaching the public about flood safety. 3. Have a plan before the storm hits. Do you need sand bags? Possibly, but be careful in the placement. Placed in the wrong spot and it could cause more damage.
4. What about gutters and drain pipes in your yard, are they clear?
5. It may sound cliche, but get to higher ground ASAP. If not, you could get trapped or worse.
