Hello ,
Greetings from wet and windy Spain, where I have just landed. Last week I was in Bangalore, India, you can read about it here.
I seem to have been travelling forever, here in Spain I'm not sure which way is the right way up. Suffering a little jet lag, and not knowing if I'm hungry or not. Please forgive the typo's.
Next week will be in UK at AW HQ.. Always nice to visit the mother ship.
We have lots of big projects in the air so I know I'm going to be very busy the next couple of weeks. If you are in Sheffield at AW don't be scared to come and say hello, just ask for David.
Only a flying visit.. the week after next I'm back to Ubud, in Indonesia where we have a new range of bamboo display stands coming to fruition.
I long time ago I had seen a bamboo display stand in a shop in Ubud, it folds flat, it could be made to hold our soap loaves. But the shop owner did not know or wasn't willing to tell us where it came from.
But our man in Bali, Ringo tracked it down to a family business right in the heart of Denpasar (the main city in Bali).
Denpasar is a big city, but strangely feels small. The local planning department only allows building to the height of a palm tree. All the roads are narrow, there are many little ravines and rivers and temples. It is a low rise city, very green and very slow moving - it takes forever to get anywhere. But in those back lanes there is a hive of activity, this is also a big textile area, and many of the worlds sarongs are made here. (More about that another time).
We have made several trips there to work on the designs and get the range right. They only had a small workshop, but with our order (a container load) would expand and take on workers.
Two gentle guys who I named the Bamboo Brothers, because they are tall and skinny and make bamboo furniture. The design is perfect, and I can imagine lots of shops and craft market folk using them.
