It was almost one year ago when the Thomas Fire devastated our little town of Ojai... And one year later, mass shootings in Thousand Oaks and deadly wildfires in southern and northern California.

It has been a difficult week in California. Two of my sisters had to evacuate their homes with their family and children in tow. Many other friends in Thousand Oaks/Malibu area were forced to flee. Thankfully my sisters and their families are safe and back in their homes. But many were not so lucky. My heart aches for all those affected.

Ojai is not far away, and it's not hard to relive the nightmare that happened a year ago. For now, I am grateful that my little town of Ojai remains safe. Thank you for your texts, emails, and messages of love and support.

We are sending our love to everyone in Paradise, Thousand Oaks and Malibu. Deep gratitude to first responders and firefighters. May all beings and wildlife stay safe.

We've heard from so many victims of the Thomas Fire who lost their homes and struggled with rebuilding due to challenges with permit processing. Sol Haus Design is proud to help and contribute in our own small way.

One of our clients, Dana and Ken Hanson, are excited to rebuild. The new design is even better than their original home, with a large deck for ocean views. We broke ground last month and move-in is scheduled for mid 2019! Big thanks to Ryan Cunningham Construction!

FROM THE FIRE is a collection of stories, interviews, poetry, photographs and artworks created by the Ojai community in response to the Thomas Fire. It was compiled with a lot of heart and soul by Elizabeth Tutnauer Rose and Deva Temple.

I'm deeply honored to be included in the book with a discussion about the housing crisis in Ojai.
