Taste of Northside FAQ's

Why attend?

Join fellow Northside parents, alumni, and faculty for a fun, casual evening in one of the city’s historic venues close to school. Your ticket includes a dinner buffet with an open bar, and live music. Attendance at the Taste also gives you exclusive access to bid on the live auction items.

The Spring Benefit is an opportunity for everyone to help ensure that Northside has the critical resources it needs to remain one of the nation's leading high schools. Donate an item, volunteer, bid on an item, or attend the Taste. We can't do it without your participation!

Will there be food?

Not only will there be food, but there will be food from some of Chicagoland's best restaurants! We have a delicious, complete dinner buffet menu planned, with tastes from these restaurants:

Will there be drinks?

Yes! Your ticket includes an open bar, featuring beer from Alarmist Brewing, Argus Brewery, Spiteful Brewing, wines from Meomi Wines/Constellation Brands, slushees from Star Union Spirits, and FON's own Mustang cocktail with Wheatley Vodka.

Northside Needs a New Athletic Field

This year's Paddle Raise at the Taste of Northside will raise funds for a much-needed, new turf athletic field. Every year, more gym classes and home athletic games must be cancelled because our Northside field is in such poor condition. Heavy use over the years has rendered it virtually unusable. A new turf field will allow our students, and future Northsiders, to play and exercise outside safely throughout the year. Let's give all of them a home-field advantage. Please demonstrate your strong support for this long-overdue improvement to the Northside campus by making a monetary contribution to the 2020 Paddle Raise. Go Mustangs!

For those interested, the events would be after school during the month of March, and the mornings of Wednesday, March 11 and Wednesday, March 18. If you are interested and able to come on one of these dates, please contact Maya at mballard4@cps.edu or contact the sponsor of the French Honors Society, Madame Mabra, at aemabra@cps.edu.

Track & Field Teams' Results: Senior Chris Jackson Breaks School 50m Dash Record

On Friday, February 28, the women's team finally got their first meet of the year at the U-High Midway Miles #1 meet, while the men's team headed to Niles West for the Paul Swanson Relays.

Both meets featured track debuts by freshmen, and there were notable finishes in both individual and relay events at all grade levels at these meets. Several athletes had times that placed them on the Northside all-time list in their events.

A special “Welcome Back!” to senior Chris Jackson, who has been coming back nicely from an injury last year. He said he felt great to be back and managed to run a school record in the 50m dash (6.89 sec)!

NCP College Fair: Thank You

The Northside Prep Counseling Department thanks all NCP students and parents who attended the 2020 joint college fair at Von Steuben High School. To provide feedback about the Von Steuben, Northside Prep, and Disney II 2020 Joint College Fair click HERE.

This year approximately 400 students attended the fair, as well as, 120 postsecondary institutions. 93 postsecondary institutions used the Strive Scan Application to collect students’ contact information. The top 5 colleges that scanned students barcodes via the Strive Scan Application were the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Michigan, Northwestern University, University of Southern California, and DePaul University.

Beyond the traditional 4 year or 2 year colleges, a variety of post-secondary programs were invited under the new Chicago Public Schools Learn. Plan. Succeed. postsecondary initiative. At the college fair students had the opportunity to explore gap year programs, job training programs, and the U.S. Armed Forces. Click HERE for the list of the postsecondary institutions.

FON Connect

Friends of Northside uses a customer/constituent relationship management (CRM) system known as FON Connect that allows our parent volunteer organization to work from one database for events. It is not a CPS database and is completely different and separate from the CPS Parent Portal and Northside's EPay website.

FON Connect also serves as the NCP Family Directory and allows users to review their donation history, update their contact information, register for upcoming events, and more. Each parent has a separate account. Transactions, including donations, are recorded in the account of the parent who initiated the transaction or donation.

If you’re new to FON Connect, you'll need to set up a login and password. To do so:

▪ Click on “Forgot Password?”
▪ Enter your email address.

Parking Lot Safety

Our NCP school parking lot is a bustling place before and after school. Families dropping off and picking up students are asked to be mindful of both safety and courtesy. Please assist us by ensuring that traffic lanes stay clear during drop-off and pick-up times and by following the parking lot procedures.

Parking Lot Procedures

ALL vehicles MUST exit onto Kedzie. You may enter the parking lot from Kedzie or Bryn Mawr, but regardless of where you enter, all cars must exit onto Kedzie. For the safety of our students and the rest of the Northside community, please do not exit onto Bryn Mawr.

The first few days will be busy at drop-off and pick-up. Please, for the safety of all involved, plan to give yourself enough time for drop-off and pick-up and please be patient while in the parking lot. Pulling over to the curb on the right as your student enters or exits your vehicle keeps students safe and traffic flow efficient. Our safety team will be actively working to ensure that students arrive and depart safely each day and that vehicles in school lots remain damage-free.
