This Thursday, December 15, AAMPO will be offering our Street Skills class at our offices located at 825 South Saint Mary's Street in San Antonio. Street Skills is a free, hour-long class for adults and mature teens who want to learn the safest way to cycle or scoot on the street. The class will cover important street riding information in a brief presentation.

Class participants will receive a FREE bike helmet and bike light set!
Join other people who ride bikes or scooters (and people new to bike or scooter riding) to learn from Joey, AAMPO’s Active Transportation Planner, in an informal, classroom-style presentation and discussion. Street Skills overviews the laws that apply to riding, trains riders on scenarios you may encounter when riding a bike or scooter in the city and prepares you on how best to handle them so that you enjoy pleasant, stress-free rides.

Street Skills classes are open to adults and teens that are at least 14 years old. Participants between 14 and 18 years old must attend with a legal guardian.

Street Skills is a partnership between the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) and the City of San Antonio.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced a statewide Call for Projects for Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TA) Program funding. The TA program provides funding to plan for and construct a variety of alternative transportation projects that improve safety and mobility for nonmotorized travelers and mitigate congestion by providing safe alternatives to motor vehicle transport.

Through TxDOT’s 2023 TA Call for Projects, the department will select projects for recommendation to the Texas Transportation Commission for current and anticipated federal appropriations under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), totaling approximately $250 million. Projects located in all areas of the state, regardless of population size, may be submitted under the current program call.

This Call for Projects will feature a two-step application process. The Preliminary Application (Step 1) will provide high-level information on proposed projects to determine eligibility and funding opportunities. If the project is successful in Step 1, a Detailed Application (Step 2) will be used to provide more detailed and comprehensive project information. This two-step approach is intended to enhance the quality of project applications and to foster communication between prospective project sponsors and TxDOT District staff. Both steps must be completed for a project to be considered for funding under this program call. Applications for TA funds administered through this Call for Projects must be submitted in the form prescribed by TxDOT and in accordance with the program rules located under 43 Texas administrative Code §§11.400 - 11.418.

TxDOT’s 2023 TA Program Guide and Preliminary Application (Step 1) are available on the department’s website at: http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/division/public-transportation/bicycle-pedestrian.html.

The completed Preliminary Application must be received by TxDOT, via Box.com as outlined in the preliminary application instructions, no later than 5:00 p.m., CDT, on Friday, January 27, 2023. The Detailed Application (Step 2) will be posted on TxDOT’s webpage on or about March 27, 2023.
