Whew! We finally figured it out.

What's in a name? Everything.

Although we've had record sales over the past three years, we've struggled explaining our new format to our traditional retail base. Describing our location as a "bookstore" gave a false connotation of how we were structured, but "book office" was clunky and equally misleading.

Well the answer was staring us in the face all along. we are a Book Showroom! We have hundreds of the latest new releases, bestsellers, children's books, and local titles on-display and ready for purchase. Beyond that, we can order 2+ million titles that can be picked up at our showroom in as little as 24-hours. Best of all, due to our lower overhead, all books are discounted.

Now that we have the right terminology, drop by our showroom and keep your book buying local!

Taft College Students Publish Literary Magazine

A group of students from Taft College has edited and released their seventh annual issue of A Sharp Piece of Awesome, a book-bound literary magazine that includes valley voices, students, visual artists, and well-published authors from around the US.

“Working on the magazine this year was full of firsts, and that came with hours upon hours of extra work. Fortunately enough, that resulted in the best issue yet,” says Editor-in-chief Alexander Victoria, a TC graduate who has been accepted to St. Mary’s College. In addition to poems and fiction, the issue includes visual art and a spotlight feature on Don Thompson, Kern County’s first Poet Laureate.

Andrea Ruby, an 18-year-old Bakersfield College student, created the issue’s cover art, which blurs the boundary between representational and abstract. Other local art—in the media of paintings, collages, photographs, assemblages, and quilts—is also included on full-color plates throughout.

While Taft College students edit the annual literary publication, anyone can submit their poems, prose, or artwork for consideration. Your copy awaits you at Russo's Books for $12 minus our everyday15% discount.
