Australian International Travel Ban Lifted 1NOV!

Travel Insurance

International travel insurance policies continue to deny COVID-19 cover in areas where there is a “Do Not Travel” warning in place. The removal of this advice will mean a shift in the ability for Australian travellers to be covered by travel insurance for travel in international destinations once again. More to come on this over the next week.

Return to Travel Advisories

Early this morning the Smart Traveller website was updated, confirming that the global Do Not Travel advisory had been taken down, with officials now updating travel advice levels for a total of 177 destinations based on the latest assessment of risk. The site advises that “at this stage no destination will be set lower than Level 2 ‘Exercise a high degree of caution’ due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19.” The site also notes that DFAT will "continue to advise ‘Do not travel’ for some destinations if there are extreme security and safety risks.”

Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Traveller Advice

As well as the updated Smartraveller advice, DFAT has issued a Global COVID-19 Health Advisory with general advice for vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers, confirming that passengers will still need to get tested for COVID-19 in order to return to Australia. Unvaccinated Australian
travellers are advised to reconsider their need to travel and to take all possible precautions to avoid contracting the virus.

We Made It!

Whether you're racing to be first to the champagne in the Qantas Club, or you're patiently planning a return to global travel sometime in the next year or two, the lifting of the travel ban is definitely worth celebrating, especially here at SJT. Travel is once again a personal choice - and while international travel over the next few months will prove to be a little trickier to navigate than in the past, the fact that we have the freedom to use our passport once again our own deserves a cheers or two.

Here's to open borders,

reuniting with loved ones,

hearing foreign languages,

eating your way around a destination,

immersing yourself in another culture

and challenging our senses.

Yours in GLOBAL travel once again,
