Anyone can participate in this statewide challenge, so register for free today HERE! | Together we're making Hawai'i more bicycle friendly everyday! | | Ride in Peace, VW | In Memory of Volker Weiss On Thursday, July 27th, Volker Weiss (VW) was riding his bicycle on Maui, when he was hit and killed by a person driving a vehicle in a dangerous manner. HBL extends our condolences to VW’s family, friends, and the riding community on Maui. This is a tragic event that no family or community should experience. His family has contacted HBL regarding a memorial fund to advocate for safer streets. HBL will continue advocating for better awareness, roadway design, enforcement, and more. The local riding community is planning a Ride of Silence on Sunday, August 6th. We have set up a memorial fund page as well. Over the weekend of July 14, HBL hosted a League of American Bicyclists (LAB) League Cycling Instructor (LCI) Seminar. The intensive twenty-three-hour seminar focused on helping candidates master and teach the concepts and skills of safe vehicular cycling, both inside the classroom and on-bike out on the road. We would like to thank the nine candidates that completed the rigorous training in order to teach bicycle safety and skills to others: Jake, Scott, Jennifer (Kaua‘i), Chuck (Maui), Erron, Bill, Jeff, and Dorian.
